The 2025 Phenom Memorial Day Classic took place this weekend in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Prep Hoops SC was in attendance for Day One on Saturday. This has been a must-stop for me the last two years and symbolizes the final event of the Spring Season for many teams. Check out my biggest standouts from Saturday at the Phenom Memorial Day Classic:

First up on my list of standouts from the 2025 Phenom Memorial Day Classic is [player_tooltip player_id='2332433' first='Tyriek' last='Jones'] of the eventual 16U Blue Bracket Champs [program_tooltip program_id='2412982' first='Upward' last='Stars Pee Dee'] 16U. Jones has a knack for making things happen with the ball in his hands and his team was better with him on the floor all game long. He is a crafty guard with a super quick crossover that he uses to get past defenders frequently. Tyriek is a tough finisher at the rim but can also find teammates in the paint. He went for 9 points and 4 assists in the tournament opener.

Kaleb was a rare player whom I got to see play in multiple age groups this weekend. Playing in the 17U bracket, Kaleb was more of a role player, adding a scoring punch with 9 points and a made three off the bench. However, in his correct 15U division, Peters looked like "the guy" going for 19 points and 9 rebounds. In that second game, Kaleb's positioning and length stood out at both ends of the floor, allowing him to clean up misses, finish above defenders, and affect shots.

I evaluated Charlie for the first time in the Stars' opening matchup Saturday Morning. He is an intriguing young big who was productive despite not having a major size advantage. However, Cothran used his polish with his back to the basket and ability to play within his team's pick-and-roll offense to finish plays. He works hard to create positioning down low, rolls hard with strong hands, and is even a decent passer out of the post. Charlie finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the win.

Wiersma was a bright spot in the tough loss for [program_tooltip program_id='2078752' first='Upward' last='Stars 3SSB'] against Team CP3 EYCL. Brice's offensive game is a nice change of pace that makes a defense scramble. He is the Stars' most polished post scorer but often gets a smaller defender to work on. Wiersma worked with his back to the basket often, but when driving he favors a spin move. Brice also is a weapon on the offensive glass. In Saturday's second game, he racked up 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Rounding out my biggest standouts from Saturday in Rock Hill is [player_tooltip player_id='2881048' first='Gannon' last='Parker']. Gannon is a two-sport athlete at nearby WCCS, also excelling on the soccer field. One attribute that translates between the two sports is his speed. Parker is extremely fast and flies around the court at times - something that benefits him on both ends of the floor. Parker is a good finisher at the rim and can knock down jumpers off the dribble. Gannon had 13 points in a dominant afternoon win.
