Level Up Showcase Sacramento Standouts

The Level Up Showcase, a one day tournament was held Sunday April 27, at Monterey Trail High School, Elk Grove. The teams were from the Sacramento Area. Sacramento is a big part of NorCal basketball. PH NorCal was there for all except the last game. Here are some of the standouts we saw on Sunday.    He spent time running the point at this event. He did well, a good size body at 6'3, he handled ball pressure bringing it up court. He made the effort to move the ball around the perimeter involving others. He used his body and hard dribbles to attack the paint. He's can hit the catch 3 jumper along the perimeters. He's got a good body to help rebound, and score around the basket.     He's lengthy, speedy, with body control. He has the handles to create his shots without a lot of dribbles. He goes hard to the basket in transition, and from the perimeter, sometimes planting off two. His speed, lengthy arms, and lateral movements makes him a quality defender, he makes you work for it.       He's a 3-point shooter, he spots up in the corners, shot ready, his mates look for him. He'll use a dribble or two to hit the short jumper, or drive into the paint. He runs wide in transition, he'll finish layups if there's a path. He look for open shots behind the 3pt line, and corners. He made a good bounce passes to the post. In two games we counted 9-3's made.     We've seen him play two times now. He's a two sport athlete (Football) with a solid post game. He averaged 16.5p, 10.3r, with his high school team. He's a good rebounder, sets solid screens, takes it up strong inside. He's a good high post passer, has the body to defend bigger players inside.     He's a big guard who aggressively looks for his shot. He doesn't mind the contact, sometimes initiating the bumps with the shoulder. When on balance he takes it up strong against bigs in the post. He hit the paint jumper. He'll get a rebound.     A solid guard good all around player. He doesn't try to do too much, but does the little things, keeps the ball moving, handles ball pressure bringing it up court, a good passer. He makes cuts without the ball, he'll finish around the basket including reverse layups.     A 6'3 Shooting guard averaged 12 pts a game on the JV last season. He's a good court runner filling lanes for transition buckets. At 6'3 he showed patience finishing inside over bigger players. He had success using his dribble for drives into the paint. He hit a couple of 3's along the perimeter.     He's a long and fast guard, likes to attack, and challenge defenders going to the basket in transition, he has good hops will dunk it if there's an opening. He hit a couple long 3ptrs, moved the ball around the perimeter, before cutting. He's a reliable defender with lengthy arms and foot speed to defend multiple positions.     Ward has made improvements to his overall game. He's grown a few inches, has developed 3-point shot he can make around the perimeter. He has the body to be a target, get points, and rebounds inside. He has work to do but we'll continue to track his progress.     The lefty has size and length. He has some tools to work with. He looks for his shot, can use a dribble or two working along the baseline for the short jumper, or use long strides across the lane to get closer to the rim. He as a mid-range turnaround jumper thats hard to block, with some touch off the glass. He has a good outlet pass after a dribble. He got a couple of put backs.
