When Smith does not settle for the three-ball and gets to the rim, that is when he is best. He was trying to dunk off everyone when he went to the rim. He has great touch and skill. His height and length are tough for anyone to contest. When he caught the ball and immediately ripped to the rim good things happened. Then once you worry about that he dots you up from deep. He made some big-time plays and free throws to end the championship game. He was the best player in the tournament in my eyes.

McGrew was great this weekend. He was a difference-maker in the games I watched today. Teams either did not have an answer for his height or athleticism. He was finishing strong around the rim and exploding to the basket. He seeks contact and finishes so strong. Players start not even jumping with him in the 2nd half. He then showed off his shooting touch in the championship game. He knocked down a couple threes and showed he could step out and stretch the floor as well. He is a nice well-rounded player that has a game that can translate to the next level.

McKinney was the best player for the Buckets in the 17U championship game. When it felt like they couldn't pull close enough he went on a 5-0 scoring run by himself. He then would continue to get in the lane and make tough shots. He showed some really impressive shot-making from deep. He scored in a lot of different ways and on all three levels of the court. His defensive presence was felt in the first half then took over the game in the second half. Played at a high level.

I have seen Calloway play many games and no matter what the talent level or pace of the game he always seems in control of it when the ball is in his hands. He just runs the show and sees the floor so well. This truly shows with this Nova squad as he sets his teammates up in the best spot on the court. He has a great IQ. He is always all over the floor. His motor and stamina are something that is a slept-on quality as well. Never seems to get tired and plays the entire game.

McGillis made the USA Fieldhouse check their electricity because of his shooting. He got hot from deep and then put on a show. He was able to shoot the ball off the move and dribble at a high level. The ball comes off his hand so smooth and with a perfect rotation. He showed off unlimited range from deep. He was knocked down and look he got even some shots with no space. He almost shot his team back into the game. He made an AAU crowd sort of “ohh,” with his shooting performance.
