Northern Cass: Season Synopsis

The ND high school basketball season is in the rearview mirror, but we are taking a look back! Prep Hoops Dakotas is publishing a series of Season Reviews to help recap and celebrate the season.   We are looking at a Class A squad, the Jaguars from Northern Cass! Trey was hurt the entire season, Jags were 13-3 in games Trey started and finished was truly a difference maker for us on the court. Trey was a Swiss army knife for us on the court- he would help bring the ball up, score off the dribble, inbound the ball in end-of-game situations. He was a coach on the court for us."   [player_tooltip player_id='1547252' first='Keelan' last='Monson'] - "Keelan was a great interior defender for us, he also led us in rebounding the past two seasons. Keelan owns two school records, shooting percentage for a season 70%, and for a career at 59.9%."   [player_tooltip player_id='2276695' first='Sam' last='Nelson'] - "One of the hardest workers I have ever coached. Sam never missed a workout or a practice. He made himself into a reliable Varsity basketball player after not even playing basketball until 8th grade."   [player_tooltip player_id='1547230' first='Hudson' last='Rietschel'] - "Hudson had always been talented offensively this year, I was most proud of the steps he took on the defensive side of the ball. He became someone we could trust to be in the right spots at the right time. As a result, he was named to the All-Region Team, Hudson also knocked down a school record 68 long balls this year."   [player_tooltip player_id='2276696' first='Brooks' last='Crockett'] - "Brooks was great for us as a freshman, averaging just under 10 points per game and knocking down 50 3's on the year. Brooks played beyond his years on the defensive end and turned into a great rebounder for us. Something we will need him to continue to do as we will be small for the next few years."   [player_tooltip player_id='1951589' first='Parker' last='Zieske'] - "Parker started every game for us this season. He is a very capable scorer, we will need him to continue to work on his game to have continued success next season. Parker really got comfortable again in the Regional Tournament when we let him chase the opposing team's best shooter each night."   [player_tooltip player_id='1547231' first='Myles' last='Froehlich'] - "I thought Myles was our most improved player this season, he really put the time in over the summer, and I thought he had an All-Region type season. He averaged 10 points 5 assists and 3 rebounds per game. I look forward to another off-season of hard work with Myles, he could be really really good next year." "We played a ton of close games throughout the season that paid off in the Regional Tournament, I thought we did a really good job of executing in pressure situations. Finishing 3rd in the Region when most people had us picked 6 or 7th was something we were all proud of."   PHD: Do you have any fun memories to share with us?   "We played 4 OT games this season, the most memorable was the triple OT game in Regional Semi-final v. Wahpeton."   "[player_tooltip player_id='1547737' first='Trey' last='Husar']s dunk in the Regional Quarters against VC was a huge boost for us and helped us win our first Regional game in almost 10 years."   PHD: How did your team overcome adversity?   "Relying on each other, pushing each other in practice."   PHD: What are a few things your team improved on throughout the season?   "Our defense really improved a ton, getting teams to play at our pace was also huge for success."   PHD: Who are some role players that stood out to you?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2276695' first='Sam' last='Nelson'] - Great team guy, guy who would bring the energy whether he was starting or coming off the bench. [player_tooltip player_id='1547231' first='Myles' last='Froehlich'] -  Myles is undersized, and teams went at him all year, and he didn't back down; he would get guarded the whole court, fouled hard, and he just kept getting up and playing. He led our team in floor burns and bruises."   PHD: Can you talk about your seniors and what will be missed?   "These guys helped us win 30 games over the past two seasons; their impact and leadership in the off-season will be missed. There were guys that our younger guys looked forward to seeing at practice/open gyms."   PHD: Who are some up-and-comers to look out for in the future?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2276696' first='Brooks' last='Crockett'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1547230' first='Hudson' last='Rietschel'] are guys who will need to improve off the dribble and attacking to hoop the next two years. But they combined for almost 120 3's while shooting a high percentage as a Sophomore and Freshman."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2840603' first='Brody' last='Zieske'] is another name to watch for the Jags."   PHD: Who was your best defensive player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1547737' first='Trey' last='Husar'] his is 6'5 and can guard anyone, very atheltic."   PHD: Who was your top interior player?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2276695' first='Sam' last='Nelson'] was our best post player, he was great in the pick-and-roll game. Great at finding space and re-screening."   PHD: Any last comments/thoughts on the season?   "Ready to start working towards next season!"
