Alex's Journal: GASO Spring Championships "Top Guys"

Last weekend, Prep Hoops Texas took a trip to the stacked GASO Spring Championships at Duncanville Fieldhouse. Teams from all around the state came out to strut their stuff and dominate the competition. It was an action-packed tournament full of highlight reels and memorable moments, but only one team from each bracket stood tall on Sunday afternoon. Let's take this time to examine some players who gave it their all at this phenomenal event.    [player_tooltip player_id='1560939' first='Jacoby' last='Lovings'] was the all-around go-getter that Elevate U needed in their matchups this weekend. The point guard from state champions Kennedale possesses lightning quick speed and knows how to pick his spots carefully on offense. He had several amazing no-look passes to set up his teammates for open buckets and was effective shooting off the dribble, able to contort his body in different ways to get the foul call if he didn't convert on the basket. Lovings can play perimeter defense with the best of guards and knows how to play passing lanes effectively due to fast reflexes and shifty speed. Lovings has emerged as easily one of the top point guards and the state and will only continue going up from here. He helped Elevate U capture wins over Texas Takeover UA Rise and Anthony Edwards 5 Texas in the Spring Championships.     Dixon was probably a top 3 overall scoring guard in attendance at GASO last weekend. He used impressive dribble moves to beat his defender to the rim on numerous occasions and is a strong finisher through tough paint defense. Bryce is a no-nonsense guard with the ball in his hands and knows how to effectively shoot a high percentage from the field as well as keep teammates involved. One part that really stood out to me about his game is his continuously physical defense on opposing lead guards as he makes them work all game for their opportunities and he also picks his spots carefully when going for steals and deflections.     [player_tooltip player_id='2556373' first='Alex' last='Jacob'] was on fire to open the weekend on Saturday morning as he hit an impressive seven three pointers in YGC Austin NXT's opening victory over HABC National. A shooter that the defense has to respect from anywhere on the court, Jacob was playing like Steph Curry this weekend with his constant off ball movement and his teammates always knew where he was at all times to give him the rock for a quick long-range bucket. Alex also showed that he can handle full court pressure as one of the lead guards and was an underrated presence on the other end of the floor as well with his fundamental perimeter defense. If he continues shooting at this frantic pace, Jacob will quickly make his name known in Texas as he picked up an offer from the University of Dallas towards the end of this weekend.     [player_tooltip player_id='2453463' first='Keshawn' last='Myles'] was an unstoppable force for Anthony Edwards 5 Texas this weekend as they cruised to two impressive blowout victories over Texas Takeover UA Rise and [program_tooltip program_id='2075520' first='Houston' last='Raptors'] Gold on Saturday. Myles has impressive athleticism flying above the rim for alley oops that get the crowd on their feet, and he also crashes the boards quite well with his size. The two games I watched Keshawn averaged a double-double playing a type of hybrid wing-post for his squad and you could tell that the energy increased every time he was on the floor. He will be a big-time stock riser for Anthony Edwards 5 Texas as the summer rages on.
