On Saturday, March 1st I attended the first ever Copper Chip between #1 Valley Christian and #2 Gilbert Christian. The game was highly competitive in the first half with 13-9 after 1 and 31-27 at halftime in VC's favor. The 3rd quarter started and the Trojans took over the game with efficient basketball from inside and out. They proceeded to outscore the Knights 39-22 in the 2nd half and pulled away and won 70-49 impressively led by [player_tooltip player_id='1379909' first='Carson' last='Grier'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1900362' first='Colby' last='Jessup']. [player_tooltip player_id='1446106' first='Jace' last='Olson'] paced GC.

Here were the Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1379909' first='Carson' last='Grier'] Valley Christian

The bigger forward plays multiple positions for the team. He scored 20 points with 7 assists 5 rebounds and 4 steals. He will score with and-1's inside using his size and will rebound and score off of put backs. He will steal the ball and handle it coast to coast where he changes speeds or kisses it off the glass. His court vision was also on display.

[player_tooltip player_id='1900362' first='Colby' last='Jessup'] Valley Chrisitan

The bigger scoring lead guard has one of the prettier strokes in the AIA. He will hit the three off the catch with range and a quicker trigger. He will also score with driving layups in traffic with contact for and-1's. He is smart with moving without the ball with back door cuts and will make plays with up the court ropes. He also rebounds well for a guard as he had 7 rebounds while scoring 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1379910' first='Kyle' last='Grier'] Valley Chrisitan

A highly skilled wing forward can play multiple positions and score. He will score with posts up with good position and dribble drives or rip thrus. He can shoot it from the perimeter and rebounds the ball well. He scored 8 points and 9 rebounds and 1 block shot.

[player_tooltip player_id='1768201' first='Paxton' last='Tamlyn'] Valley Chrisitan

An athletic guard will score with driving layups with advanced body control. He will dribble drive into a running layups, back door layups and he is an unusually good rebounder for his size. He scored 6 points with 2 steals and 4 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='1366580' first='Justin' last='Garcia'] Valley Christian

A high level cerebral guard can play on or off the ball. He caught fire in the middle of the game and drilled three straight threes off the catch. He knows how to play and smartly plays off of others. He scored 9 points with 1 steal.

[player_tooltip player_id='1446106' first='Jace' last='Olson'] Gilbert Christian

The do-it-all bigger guard did everything he could to keep the Knights in the game. He scored 22 points with dribble drives, post ups into and-1's, he utilizes his size advantage in the post, off the dribble pull-ups or fade away threes and will step thru in the lane. He rebounds well with boxing his man out and will drive and kick it to a teammate. He scored 22 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2561108' first='Logan' last='Lucero'] Gilbert Christian

The more you watch Logan, the more you appreciate his skill. He is a bigger scoring lead guard who is a next level passer with a good feel. He is a very good passer and will drive and kick or slip it into traffic for the assist. He will score with the floater game and he hesitates well and will get to the basket. He is also a capable perimeter shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2775728' first='Owen' last='Fermoyle'] Gilbert Christian

A bigger scoring guard uses his size and tighter handle to get downhill. She uses euro steps well and he is a great rebounder in traffic. He will also get to the free throw line and he took pressure off of Logan and Jace all season long.

[player_tooltip player_id='2773900' first='Colin' last='Burke'] Gilbert Christian

A talented freshman scoring point guard. He can hit the three off the catch with a quick release and then step back from mid-range off the dribble. He has an ultra quick first step and he is a step quicker then most on the court. He is a plus defender to block shots and he is quick in the passing lanes.

[player_tooltip player_id='2796868' first='Taylor' last='Abrahamson'] Gilbert Christian

A newcomer for the website is a decent sized combo guard.
