SWFL 2027 Under the Radar Prospects, Second Five

With the 2024-25 season coming to end, there has been some outstanding basketball which has been played throughout the year, and a lot of progress made by a number of players across the state. SWFL saw a very competitive season locally, and even saw a couple teams advance to Lakeland, but let's now take a closer look at some of the area's sophomore prospects, who may not be as well known, but made some noise and saw their stock rise in 2024-2025.    Soto Mayer had himself quite the season is this his sophomore year, averaging 13.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.7 apg, and 1.8 spg. The super athletic PG went on a stretch of scoring in double-figures for 14-straight games, including a season-high 24 points in a win over ECS. Soto Mayer has a quick first step and likes to attack the basket, but can also hurt you from deep where he shoots the 3-ball at a very high rate. He can be a pest on defense and also rebounds the ball very well from the guard position.     The sharpshooter from Aubrey Rogers put together a solid sophomore campaign, averaging just under 8 ppg. He has solid size which allows him to guard multiple positions on defense and can also be an asset on the boards. Timmer is a smart player who when he gets hot can score in bunches. He has a smooth outside stroke with a quick release and will make teams pay with his 3-point shooting ability. Timmer posted a season-high 27 points in tough loss to Naples.     Kirkby is another prospect who really excels at shooting the deep ball. The 6'0" CG is a smart player who plays the game hard and continues to improve his skillset. He has solid handles and great court vision, where he is always looking to get his teammates involved. He is very efficient at shooting it from behind-the-arc, but can also attack the basket and finish around the rim. Look for Kirkby to build on his sophomore season and put up some solid numbers once again.     Milne is one of those do-it-all guys who's willing to do whatever it takes to get the win. He's a smart player who plays the game right, and gives it 100% every time he steps on the floor. He is a tremendous 2-way player who has a knack for forcing steals and turning defense into offense. Milne is your prototypical 3 and D prospect, he has great size and length, won't back down from any assignment on defense, and he shoots the 3-ball at a very high rate.     FBA's floor general was a huge part of his teams success and trip to the Final Four this past season. Taylor has tremendous handles and acted as the Lions primary ballhandler throughout the season. He has an excellent basketball IQ and plays the game with a lot of heart and emotion. The 6'1" PG has great size and rebounds the ball very well from the guard position. Taylor can score on all 3-levels and should be a prospect on everyone's radar over the next couple years.
