Middle School Camp — Minnesota: 2029 Standouts (Vol. 3)

Prep Hoops Next is back with some more 2029 ballers to talk about from the Middle School Camp — Minnesota at Mounds View High School. Definitely do not sleep on this list and I still have some high-end ballers mentioned below. One being a 1st-team all-camp team selection. We have six prospects on the list that are from Minnesota and North Dakota.    Messmer, the North Dakota product, has a nice overall and well-rounded profile. Adequate positional size, a skilled game both as a ball-handler and shooter, and he possesses good athleticism and athletic pop. Messmer could put the ball on the floor, play fast with the ball, and got out in transition. His jumping ability and ability to get off the ground quickly was noticeable.     I wish I would have given more attention to Sola and made it a point to be on his court and watch him more, as he was chosen as a 1st-team all-camp selection by our other scout at the camp. In my limited viewing of him, his ball-handling and smooth-moving with the ball in transition and through traffic seemed legitimate. Elite skill with the ball and an uncanny feel for the game and how to operate with the ball in his hands. I did see a video of him playing through contact and cleanly got the ball in the hoop for a bank swish off the glass. A smooth operator out there on the court.     Morris was nearly impossible to contain off the dribble and keep out of the lane and from reaching the paint. This aspect of his game was my main takeaway and it was his go-to and set him apart from the pack. Very quick in the open court and was weaving through the defense. He was aggressive attacking and he kept doing it because it was uncontainable and effective. Seems like a kid that loves competing and wants to be an impact guy going forward.     The left-handed guard has a nice overall profile and well-rounded game. I don't recall any weaknesses to his game. Offensively, he could put the ball on the floor with a skilled handle and ability to open up space for himself to get his offensive game going. He could knockdown jumpers with a smooth left-handed stroke that looks like he's been working on. A good athlete that can run and jump, and there's a video from the camp of him with an impressive chase-down block at the rim.     I remember Quinn being in this event last year as well. His length right now is the best part of his profile. A 6'3” guard/wing as an eighth grader is a great starting point going into his high school career next year. He already has some skills as a shooter that he can build upon going forward. If he can sharpen some of his other ball skills and work on improving his playing strength, he has a good chance of being a solid prospect.     I remember Mattson quite clearly and really liked what he brought to the table and see a good amount of upside in his profile. He's long and lanky and most definitely has a positive wingspan. Very long arms and he accompanies that with a smooth shooting stroke that was consistently on target. I thought he showed great court vision and a skilled passing game to go along with his court sense. He showed some great playing IQ and understanding of what the right play to make was.
