Mater East Academy opened the playoffs against Pinecrest Sloan Canyon. The Knights got straight to work and built a sizable lead over the Pirates in the first quarter. From there they continued to share the ball on offense, which resulted in a ton of assisted baskets for them. Sloan Canyon did their best to keep up, but they simply didn't shoot the ball enough. Credit is due to the Knights defense though, they played with intensity and made sure that the Pirates never gained any momentum. The game was essentially over by the end of the third quarter, and Mater East Academy played their reserves the rest of the way.

[player_tooltip player_id='1243526' first='Lonnie' last='Bass Jr']. used his physicality and size to dominate the paint on Monday night. On offense, he was moving off ball to set himself up for open looks near the rim. The senior also got out in transition a few times and threw down 3 dunks over the course of the game. On defense, the Sloan Canyon bigs had little to no success scoring on Bass Jr.

[player_tooltip player_id='1253143' first='Deven' last='Taylor'] had a solid all around performance to help the Knights get the win. The Sloan Canyon guards had a very difficult time bringing the ball up the court when Taylor was applying pressure. His efforts led to some easy points for himself and his teammates. On offense, Taylor had a couple of nice drives and he also got to the free throw line by drawing contact.

[player_tooltip player_id='2357939' first='Kobe' last='Robinson'] got to his spots and hit a majority of his field goal attempts. I liked how confidently he played, and you could tell there was zero hesitation to let it go when he had open looks. He finished the game with 11 points, and 6 of those points were from 3-pointers. Hopefully Robinson can have a similar outing on Wednesday for the Knights, as they may need his his spark in what will likely be a close game.

It was a long night for the Sloan Canyon guards, but the freshman had a few highlight reel plays. His top play, was when he spun through the defense, and made a very tough finish. In addition to hitting the lay-up, he also got to the line and made it a 3 point play. While I'm sure he would've preferred his season to keep going, I think he developed a lot this season.

I was a fan of the way Xaysana competed for the Pirates. He didn't let the scoreboard effect his effort and I think that speaks volumes about him. Although he could've been more efficient from the field, he was hunting shots and fighting for rebounds. I also noticed him use his vertical to block a shot on the defensive end.
