IRVINE — Gerry Freitas put together his 4th annual SoCal Showdown last weekend at Irvine Valley College. The event featured eight games which matched-up some of the region's top programs. In this piece we break down the best rebounders from this event.

[player_tooltip player_id='1630617' first='Brayden' last='Burries'] | 2025 | Eastvale Roosevelt

Burries didn't have the scoring output we are used to seeing from him but he did impact the game in other ways, including with his rebounding. The 6-foot-5 five-star prospect grabbed nine boards in the Mustangs' win over Etiwanda with five of those coming on the offensive end. Burries is a high motor guy who does anything it takes to win a game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2622334' first='David' last='Abisogun'] | 2025 | Fairmont Prep

Abisogun stands out with his effort and energy plays throughout the game. The high motor 6-foot-9 forward/center is an active rim-runner, rim protector and perimeter defender who pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in Fairmont Prep's loss to Alemany. Five of Abisogun's 15 boards came on the offensive glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='2425674' first='Jacob' last='Majok'] | 2026 | Crean Lutheran

Majok will likely appear on two of our "best" lists from this event and the rebounding one is the first. The long, wiry and athletic 6-foot-8 forward cleaned the defensive glass to the tune of 14 boards in the Saints win over Temecula Valley. Majok's combination of length and quick twitch athleticism allows him to pursue missed shots in and out of his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='1630683' first='Julien' last='Gomez'] | 2025 | La Mirada

Gomez was another SoCal star who helped his team earn a win in a way that wasn't scoring. The 6-foot-3 guard pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds with nine of those being of the defensive variety. Gomez's ability to rebound on the defensive glass was important for the Matadores as it allowed them to get out on their break quickly and attack with pace on the offensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id='2425677' first='Kawika' last='Suter'] | 2026 | Rolling Hills Prep

Suter is a versatile, do-it-all type prospect who impacts the game in a variety of ways with his skill level and high motor. The 6-foot-7 wing/forward grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, including two offensive boards, to help the Huskies defeat Village Christian.

Marc Cherfan | 2025 | Alemany

Cherfan seems to have a magnet on the ball because he always seems to be lingering on the defensive boards ready to rebound and push. The 6-foot-7 forward has the ball skills, passing ability and basketball IQ to lead the break off of the defensive glass and make smart decisions to get his team into offense. Cherfan pulled down eight rebounds in Alemany's win over Fairmont Prep.
