Wednesday, January 15th I attended the 2A match-up of #5 North Valley Christian Academy traveling to Scottsdale to take on #7 Scottsdale Christian Academy.

It was a tight game at halftime at 25-24 but NVCA broke it open in the 2nd half with incredible team defense to win it 51-38.

Here were the standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2733555' first='Noah' last='Corrigan'] NVCA (Pictured left)

A newcomer for me is a wing forward who is a good defender and can score. He hits corners threes off the catch. He will euro step down the lane and score on offensive rebound put backs. He collects steals and will even block shots. He is another top soph in the program that should breakout next year. He scored 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1490908' first='Bobby' last='Rodriguez'] NVCA (Pictured middle)

A gifted scoring lead guard can put points on the board. He will score with tough layups in traffic with either hand, sharp jab step jumpers from mid to the three point line and will facilitate. He made a couple impressive live dribble assists. He scored 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2396185' first='Zathan' last='Ruffin'] NVCA (Pictured right)

One of the most versatile defensive wings in the class. He defends point guards and then will go down low and covers power forwards. He is a long strider who will unselfishly drive and kick it often as a point forward type. He scores with quick bursts, layups and quick twitch dunks way above the rim. He makes his money on defense with making it difficult to score on him. He is also a high level rebounder and shot blocker. He scored 8 points with 11 rebounds, 5 blocks, 2 assists and 2 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2733573' first='Levi' last='Corrigan'] NVCA

A physical and tough 3 and D type. He was shadowing Harrison part of the game, along with Ruffin, trying to slow him down. He brings a little edge to him and moves his feet quickly. He rebounds well and collects steals. He is a catch and shoot three point type that knows his role for the team to be successful. He scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2733583' first='Brayden' last='Collins'] NVCA

A bigger sized wing forward plays both forward spots for them. He scores with mid-range pull-ups off the dribble, which seems to be his sweet spot, layups in traffic and he is a tough cover. He uses his size to rebound and defend. Another glue guy for the team who scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2052370' first='Jackson' last='Harrison'] SCA

One of the top shooters in the class is Harrison. He has a good feel for the game and he is a good passer up the court but he is a natural scorer. He has a pure three point stroke and may have the quickest release in the class locally. He hesitates well and will drive by his defenders to score. He gets to the line and when he is hot, he is nearly impossible to contain. NVCA literally took turns trying to slow him down. He scored 17 points with three 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='2149099' first='Dominic' last='Dickerson'] SCA

The pure point guard of the Scottsdale 2A team is Dickerson. He has plus court vision with slip and up the court passes. He will score with reverse layups, cuts off the ball and defend. He rebounds well for his size and gains deflections and collects steals. He scored 4 points with multiple assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2674770' first='Cash' last='Gorder'] SCA

A long and lean scoring wing. He will catch and shoot from the three point line in the corner or at the top of the key. He moves well from end to end and uses his long skinny arms to rebound or play the passing lanes on defense. He scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2353009' first='Tyler' last='Anderson'] SCA

A high motored high energy and athletic power forward. He is a little undersized but rebounds the ball at a high level with his quick twitch bounce. He will block shots and rebound out of his area and runs the floor to defend. He has close to 10 rebounds in this game before he got a concussion unfortunately near the end of the game.
