The annual Lee College Classic was put on in late December/early January and allowed teams to showcase their improvement as many varsity squads have now heightened their chemistry since the beginning of the season and are playing at an elite level. Several prospects were key as always in some important bracket wins for their respective schools to advance in the tournament. Let's look at some hoopers who went above and beyond with their energy and effort during this event.

Dyllan has been a big piece of the backcourt all year for Friendswood and it was no different in their morning win over a talented North Shore squad. He was the main facilitator bringing the ball up with star prospect [player_tooltip player_id='2251928' first='Chase' last='Richardson'] on the bench and Baker made the most of his opportunity. He showed ability to get to the basket and finish tough layups through contact as well as always finding his open teammates for a good look at the basket. Dyllan does not let pressure faze him and he was able to come through in the clutch for his team multiple times during one of the opening tournament games. Dyllan currently has an offer from University of St. Thomas!

Derrick was a force in the paint for BMT Westbrook in their win over Fort Bend Hightower. Daigle was a huge effort player and was consistently fighting for second chance points and rebounds on both ends of the floor as well as being a good emotional leader for his team in the huddle and on the court. He made opponents alter their shots in the paint with his length and wingspan as well as coming away with steals due to playing the passing lanes. This was my first time getting to watch Derrick and he was definitely impressive. I will be tuned into more of his games as the season continues.

Luke was a great hybrid wing/post for the Mustangs during the tournament. On offense, he can score from all three levels and stretch the floor when his team needs it. His aggressive paint defense is important as he knows how to stay disciplined and not bite on pump fakes as well as showing ability to start the fastbreak off grabbing a key rebound. Hinchcliffe also displayed calm and poise handling the ball against full court pressure and was on fire in the paint during the second half, amassing several layups and dunks against man coverage.

Elijah was the main floor general for West Brook in their important win over Hightower. He showcased that he knows how to keep teammates involved, but he can also be a primary scorer from any area of the floor, and he made his matchup pay any time he was left open. Garrett can get to the basket by beating defenders due to his shiftiness with the ball in his hands and can also make things happen, using the pick and roll to his advantage.
