January 2nd-4th I attended the annual Hoophall West located at Highland HS in Gilbert this year and also the Nike Tournament of Champions at multiple high school gyms throughout the East Valley. In the three days I viewed seven different brackets (Hoophall West, Saguaro, Sonoran, Coyote, Jackrabbit, Camelback and Sunrise) which included two championship games (Sonoran and Sunrise).

[player_tooltip player_id='1150823' first='Kalek' last='House'] AZ Compass Prep (Pictured)

A defensive combo guard defends the top opposing guard each night. He consistently gets steals and deflections with his quick feet and hands. He closes out to shooters about as well as you can. He got hot from the arc and rattled in threes. He will also drive it with right hand to find teammates and score in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='1482165' first='Rider' last='Portela'] Sunnyslope

A long and athletic combo guard is a versatile prospect that can literally play the 1-3 for his team. He takes long strides when he slashes to the basket with his fluid handle to get past his initial defender and will finish off some tough shots in the painted area. He makes shots from the perimeter and he will defend multiple positions.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150824' first='Kaden' last='House'] AZ Compass Prep

A combo guard who is a natural bucket. He scores from all three levels with dunks in transition, threes off the catch, floaters and pull-ups. His defense will often lead to offense with layups or he will find a teammate for the assist.

[player_tooltip player_id='1768202' first='Marquice' last='Cole Jr'] Hamilton

A true combo guard has athleticism for days. He made the all-tournament team for his bracket with his strong play. He is a smooth guard with a very fluid handle and will make plays. His on-ball defense is tough and will pick some pockets. He scores with tough takes in traffic and above the rim layups with elite body control.

[player_tooltip player_id='994689' first='Noah' last='George'] Bella Vista Prep CIA

A versatile combo guard who can play on or off the ball seamlessly. He makes good decisions and has great size with some athleticism. He can get to the basket as he changes speeds smartly and scores with catch threes and in-traffic takes. His defense on the ball bothers his opponents.

[player_tooltip player_id='2211004' first='Rokiem' last='Green'] Bella Vista Prep CIA

An athletic defensive minded guard is that true coveted 3 and D type. When he is given a little space and time he will rattle in triples off the catch. He has a shot that looks good on every attempt and he will also hit the occasional off the dribble three. He seems to collect steals in bunches with aggressive nature, length and athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id='1697292' first='Rylan' last='Parsley'] Sandra Day O'Connor

One of the tallest natural shooting guards in the state. He has a pretty three point stroke off the catch and needs very little time or space to get it off. He will dunk it on the break and, like Green, his defense is improving on the perimeter moving his feet well laterally turning into that 3 and D type.

[player_tooltip player_id='1685490' first='Patrice' last='Mpouli'] Williams Field

A long guard is a two-way defensive off guard. He will pick his opponents clean with his quicker twitch and lateral quickness. He scores with catch threes, pull-ups off the dribble and transition buckets with his graceful strides. He is also a sneaky good passer.

[player_tooltip player_id='1323296' first='Matt' last='Delgado'] Boulder Creek

A bigger guard or wing is a good rebounder in traffic using his length and size. He smartly is playing of of two-feet and will fade away from his defender or find a teammate. He runs well on the break and will score. He will shoot the three and loves getting to the basket going baseline with very long strides. He can finish it off or get fouled and cashes in at the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='1776603' first='Diego' last='Gonzales'] Hamilton

One of their top junior guards for the big school is Gonzales. He comes in off the bench and is ready to affect the outcome. He will hit the three off the catch and he can ball fake into a drive and score it at the rim with some contact slithering his way for two.
