Hoopfest Lafayette Classic: The Game Changers

The HoopsFest Lafayette Classic provided an action-packed day of competition, offering the PrepHoops staff a chance to check out several players we hadn't seen since the start of the season. And the talent on display certainly did not disappoint. Below, we highlight some of the standout performers from the games we observed, along with their stats and player evaluations. These athletes truly showcased their hard work through impressive production on the court.    24 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists.   Every now and then, you step into a gym and you come across a player who just has it. [player_tooltip player_id='2410738' first='Jaydon' last='Norbert'] is one of those players. He's the complete package, a guy who checks all the boxes and more. If you use your basketball imagination and think about what makes a player truly special—Norbert has it.   Whether he's pulling up from deep, attacking the basket, or running the offense, you can see the belief he has in his game. He can shoot from virtually anywhere—mid-range, deep threes, and he's comfortable scoring off the dribble. Norbert doesn't need a lot of space to get his shot off, and when he's in rhythm, he's a dangerous offensive weapon.   He can handle the ball well enough to run point guard, showing impressive court vision and the ability to make plays for his teammates. His ball-handling allows him to break down defenses and create opportunities, whether that's for himself or others. He's not just a scorer; he's a creator.   He has the quickness to stay in front of his man and the length to disrupt passing lanes. His defensive tenacity makes him a complete player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. What sets Norbert apart even further is his ability to finish at the rim. He's explosive, and when he gets a step he can finish on the rim. He has the full skill set to take his game to the next level.   Norbert is truly a hidden gem in Louisiana basketball, flying under the radar in the state rankings. His combination of skills, confidence, and basketball IQ make him a player that can excel at the next level. There's no doubt that, given the right exposure and opportunity, [player_tooltip player_id='2410738' first='Jaydon' last='Norbert'] is a name that we'll be hearing a lot more of in the near future.     17 points, 25 rebounds.   Jadell Demery is as dominant as they come, and he plays with a physicality that makes him a nightmare for defenders. Standing at 6'3", Demery plays well beyond his size, preferring to bully his way through defenders and operate in the paint. His combination of strength and agility allows him to outmuscle taller players while using his speed to score, rebound, and defend.   In his recent game, Demery's efforts on both the offensive and defensive boards were crucial in securing the win for his team against a gritty Southside squad. He's not just a physical force—Demery can handle the ball, and his playmaking out of the triple-threat position shows his basketball IQ. He's unselfish, consistently looking for shooters and making the right pass when running sets.   His versatility is another key asset. Demery can play positions 1 through 3, and even frustrate defenders in the 4 spot with his size and skills. His all-around game and ability to impact both ends of the floor make him a player to watch in the 2025 class. Simply put, Demery is a force that can dictate the game in a variety of ways.     19 Points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2steals, 1 block.   Lavar Duncan earned the “Slasher of the Day” award for his relentless attacking of the defense from start to finish. He has a natural instinct for being in the right place at the right time, constantly getting to loose balls and creating extra possessions for his team. Duncan's ability to pressure the defense and get downhill was evident throughout the game, where he made plays with both skill and grit.   His style of play is traditional but effective—he's most comfortable hitting mid-range jumpers and drawing fouls in the lane for three-point plays. Duncan worked hard on both ends of the floor, turning what could have been a tactical chess match into a full-blown dogfight. His game is physical yet controlled, and his intensity makes him a joy to watch. Duncan's energy is infectious, and he has a way of raising the level of play for everyone around him.     17 Points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists.   When you watch [player_tooltip player_id='2421287' first='Markez' last='Davis'] play, two things immediately stand out: pace and poise. At 6'4", Davis moves with a fluidity and control that makes him look effortless on the court. His game is as smooth as it gets, and he plays with a maturity beyond his years—showing why he's ranked among the top 5 players in his class.   Davis is a long, athletic guard who can bring the ball up the floor and operate in multiple areas. His shooting range is impressive—he's reliable from mid-range and beyond the arc, and defenders have to respect his ability to score from anywhere. But it's not just his shooting. Davis is an above-the-rim player who isn't afraid to show off his athleticism. In his matchup against Catholic Baton Rouge, he showcased a couple of highlight dunks, proving he can elevate his game when the moment calls for it.   With his size, skill set, and high basketball IQ, Davis has all the tools to be the best player on a state championship team, even as a sophomore. Coaches and scouts are going to love his potential, and it's easy to see why he's a top-tier prospect who could move even higher in the rankings in the future.     19 points.   Charlie Mosely earned "Shooter of the Day" honors with a stellar performance, knocking down 6 three-pointers in a dominant win for Catholic Baton Rouge against Northwest. In today's game, where the three-pointer can completely shift momentum, Mosely's timely shooting was a game-changer. Whenever Northwest seemed to be building momentum, Mosely would bury another deep shot, deflating any hopes of a rally.   Beyond his shooting, Mosely is a scrappy defender who plays hard on both ends of the floor. He runs the court well, gets to his spots, and has the confidence to take—and make—big shots when his team needs it. If Mosely has a clear line of sight to the basket, you can pretty much count the bucket. His ability to shoot with range and consistency makes him a serious threat from beyond the arc.   With another year to play on the top-ranked team in the state, Mosely has the chance to put Louisiana on notice. As a sharpshooter with defensive grit, he's a player to watch as his stock continues to rise.    It was an exciting day of basketball, filled with standout performances from a range of talented players. However, it was the individuals highlighted in this article who truly led the charge in scoring and other vital aspects of the game, earning well-deserved recognition for their contributions.
