The annual Chance Harman Memorial Classic took place in Floyd County this past weekend, which is on one of my personal favorite events of the year. The two day classic takes place about 30 minutes from Blacksburg, and always features a mix of talented local teams from the western part of the state as well as some big time out of area programs, giving me a great chance to see and evaluate talent from numerous levels in one event.

The event is named after Chance Harman, Floyd County Head Coach Brian Harman's son who passed away from a rare form of cancer in the early 2000s. The event features raffles, silent auctions and more, and all profits go toward childhood cancer research.

Here's a look at part three of the standouts from VA teams in attendance.

Carroll looked like a true sleeper to keep an eye on come March, and Richardson is a big reason as he was absolutely fantastic in their win over Cave Spring. The 6'1” guard was lights out from deep, showing his ability to work off the ball and set his feet quickly, and he knocked down 5 three-pointers in the game. He finished with 20 points and made plays in a number of different ways as a secondary ball handler and top tier defender.

Bryce Smoot | 5'11” CG | Carroll County '25

Smoot was another impressive and productive player for Carroll, as the senior combo guard did a little bit of everything to help his team come away with the win. The 5'11” guard was fantastic on the defensive end, using his strength and quick feet to stay in front of ball handlers and make plays with his quick hands too. He shot the ball well from multiple levels and was able to make plays off the bounce, finishing the game with 16 points and setting the tone on both ends.

Isaiah Easter | 6'1” CG | Carroll County '26

Easter is going to be next up on this Carroll team, and he was very good for them in their win over Cave Spring providing good production on both ends of the floor. He handled pressure well and made good decisions with the ball in his hands, he moved off the ball and made shots from different levels and he played with good energy defensively and on the glass. He finished with 12 points and provided a spark with his hustle plays too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2761885' first='Reed' last='Kirtner'] | 6'2” CG | George Wythe '25

George Wythe went toe-to-toe with one of the best private schools in NC in Bishop McGuinness, and Kirtner was a big reason why pouring in a game high 18 points in a number of different ways. The 6'2” combo guard got to spots off the bounce with relative ease, showing great footwork on his pull-up and on catch-and-shoot threes from deep. He was very good finishing among bigger players and converting plays through contact, while making plays for others as well.

Brayden Rainey | 6'3” PF | George Wythe '25

Rainey was another very impressive player for Wythe, as he battled with the bigger Bishop McGuinness front line all game and was very productive across the board. The 6'3” forward showed a great motor attacking the glass on both ends, and showed good pop and athleticism with his ability to finish at the rim and through contact. He used his strength and footwork to negate his size in the paint, showed touch out to the elbows and made all the hustle plays as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2780046' first='Gavin' last='Arthur'] | 6'2” WG | EC Glass '26

Arthur was the leading scorer of a well balanced Glass team that was able to pull of a big win against two time defending state champs Northside in a thrilling game winner, and he's looking like he could be one of the top players in the Lynchburg area over the next few years. The 6'2” wing works well playing both on and off the ball, making shots off the catch and being able to get to spots to score it off the bounce. He played with good energy rebounding on both ends, and was efficient making shots from multiple levels.

Damarie Harris | 5'9” PG | EC Glass '28

Just a freshman, Harris provided great energy off the bench for this Glass team, turning the tables for them when they needed it most and showing a lot of upside moving forward. While he isn't the biggest guy, Harris is lightning quick off the bounce with great speed in transition, and he uses his athleticism on the defensive end to make plays as well. He showed poise handling the ball, toughness on both ends and made some impressive plays throughout the game.
