Ricky Goings Winter Invitational Day 2 Standouts Pt 1

This 20+ team showcase with two northeast travelling squads was full of action over the weekend. The DMV showed some talent through all three states. This article will highlight the first slate of standout prospects from the [player_tooltip player_id='2139476' first='Ricky' last='Goings'] Winter Session Invitational in DC!    Semaj was giving the opposition problems all game long. He used his shifty and electrifying ball-handling to create countless open shots for himself and his team later on. Started the game off hot by hitting a couple 3-pointers. Ended up with a team-high of 14 points and created most of them after breaking his defender off with a shifty crossover. His decision-making was impressive overall, made some mistakes but also threaded the needle on a number of passes. Found his open teammates well and got them the ball on time more times then not. Won MVP of the game as he was the clear leader of the NHA Tiger pack.     Sussberg surpassed 1000 points on his high school career midway through his Day 2 scoring outburst vs SMR. He started off early firing off deep missiles from behind the 3pt line, some even coming early in the possession. He drilled an extremely deep 3 from the top that set the precedence for what was to come soon after. Sussberg was ultra aggressive in his hunt for his shot, but he had the vision to dish the ball off when the defense converged on him. Made some solid passes mixed in his overall offensive attack. His ability to elevate into his shot or create off the dribble was lethal this game, scoring lots of points from sinking jumpers around the floor. The team was geared to go behind his scoring prowess and he brought his A-game for them on Day 2.     Trey was consistent and efficient through Lanham's wire-to-wire win over New Hope Regional. He scored at will inside, racking up 29 points with ease. Trey set solid screens and opened up very well to create an easy passing target for his guard in P&R. Had more than a handful of impressive layups at the rim, either finishing through contact or using his athleticism to move around the defense. Adjusted well to the defensive attention he was getting as the game progressed, still rose as the consistent slasher he flashed in the first half. Made smart cuts and timely rolls to the rim that were rewarded by his teammates.     Strong performance from Harper in an intense game against Scarsdale. He came up big at crucial moments for the Ryken at many different points in the game, although they came up short. He had some very nice drives to the basket where he shielded the ball with his body and used his strength to muscle through contact and finish. Made a few three-pointers and a couple of them came in critical moments, showed some poise and confidence to take big shots. He defended the ball and played the gaps well, usually stayed disciplined on drives. Good all-around game from Braylen.     Nue was the x-factor to the Living Water's big win over Delaware's Great Oaks Charter. Had 17 points and was active all over the court, grabbing loose balls, pulling down rebounds, and staying consistent in his shots around the rim. If he missed his first attempt at the rim, he was likely to grab the board and put it back up for two. He hunted down the ball throughout the entirety of the game, seemed to always have the energy to fight for the rock. His efforts on both sides of the floor earned him MVP of the game and a W.     Sean was the leading force behind Roosevelt's route over Friendship Collegiate. His defense was absolutely smothering, picking up numerous steals in the backcourt before the FC guards could cross half. He finished fastbreak layups all night, and was a force on the glass as well. Cleaned up a lot of misses offensively and defensively. Flashed some nice athleticism during his performance, timing a lot of blocks and reading plays in advance defensively to break up a lot of passes. Attacks the basket strong and makes you look past him being a slightly undersized forward. Mixed in some perimeter shots that dropped, but mainly scored from taking and making layups. Really liked Sean's approach and impact on the game on both sides.
