We are looking at the Honkers from Kenmare-Bowbells and the Cardinals from Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich.   When do they play? "We were led by a couple of seniors last year, but as the season progressed our younger guys really stepped up and gave us some big minutes. With this experience returning this year we are hoping to see improvements throughout the season and for some of these guys to take the next step in their game."   PHD: What will your defense "hang its hat on"?   "Defensively we want to protect the rim with our bigs and force teams to shoot contested perimeter shots."   PHD: Who will be your primary ballhandler this year?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2633695' first='Cohen' last='Seime']- He is a quick ball handler who can get to the rim and finish. He is strong with the ball and is a put your head down and go kind of kid."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?   "I think we improved by being more physical as some of our main guys really put the time in this summer in the weight room."   PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2633695' first='Cohen' last='Seime']- PG and main ball handler, hoping he can up his averages in points and assists this year as our perimeter shooting should help open things up for his offensive game." "[player_tooltip player_id='2689797' first='Caleb' last='Knutson']- Kid is a stud defensive player who I feel can match up with about anyone we have on our schedule, he also became one of our top offensive players as the season progressed last year." "Cannen Lalum- He has shot up a couple of inches over the summer and has one of the smoothest perimeter shots around."   PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2689812' first='Jacob' last='Zorn'] 6'3" Sophomore, he is long, athletic, and has a nose for the ball.  Last year he seen some varsity minutes towards the end of the season."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2689810' first='Maddox' last='Chrest'] 6'4" Junior who is a big strong kid who came on strong last year for us and played some big time minutes for us in the District and Region Tournament. He can knock down the perimeter shot and is not afraid to run the floor and get some rebounds."   PHD: Who do you think will be your best rebounders?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2689798' first='Peyton' last='Helwig']- hoping for him to continue his ability to rebound the ball, he is an athletic strong kid who when he wants to go get it there is no one who is going to outrebound him."   PHD: What are your team goals this year?   "To get better every game and compete hard every game. We want to be aggressive and play with a little edge."   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "This team has a handful of kids that are always wanting to be pushed and push each other."   PHD: Who are the top teams & players in your Region? "We are a team who can play 10-12 different guys a night with many interchangeables at all positions. Our success will depend a lot on our defensive pressure which in hope leads to transition opportunities. We also should be an above-average perimeter shooting team, which in hopes should help our bigs get some easy baskets off rebounds or post-ups." Excels on the fast break as well as on the defensive side of the ball. Has the opportunity to step into more of a scorer role for us this season. A special athlete on the basketball court, just needs to realize his full potential. Has All-Region potential.   [player_tooltip player_id='2297738' first='Levi' last='Swanson'] (6'1”, G, JR): Should become a more consistent scorer for us this year, with the potential to be around the 12+ per game mark. A very good outside shooter, hit a lot of clutch 3's in big moments last season. Will step in as potentially one of the main ballhandlers, he will also play off the ball as well. Has a knack for the ball on the offensive glass. Has All-District potential, should push for the All-Region mark. Will have a lot of responsibilities put on his plate this year, stepping into the lead ball handler role as well as potentially that main offensive option. Understands the game well for a freshman, lethal shooter from 3, and pesky on-ball defender. Potential to be an all-around threat. "All in all, the season was positive for the program, made it to the Regional Tournament but fell short of reaching a State Qualifier. The athletes continuously improved throughout the year and put themselves in good positions each game. Although the season didn't end the way we would have preferred, the boys took a huge step in the right direction for the program."   PHD: What will your defense "hang its hat on"?   "We've got some long athletic kids that should be able to capitalize on a more aggressive style of defense. Our athletes have a nose for the ball and usually don't shy away from a matchup. We've historically been a strong rebounding team, so that will be something that we'll rely on as well. Hardnosed, physical defense has always been something that we've excelled at, which we hope to continue that trend this season."   PHD: Who will be your primary ballhandler this year?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2415387' first='Eastyn' last='Schaefer'] will step into the primary ballhandler role this year. He understands the offense and his teammate's strengths and is capable of putting them in a position to succeed. He plays fast and under control, but being a freshman he'll have to learn on the fly how to effectively operate at the varsity level."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?   "The offseason went well. Most of the boys play on AAU teams and spend a good chunk of their summer traveling around competing at that level. Individual skills have been the focus of most of the offseason programs, challenging them to take at least 10k shots during the summertime. A lot of the improvements that need to be made during the off-season fall on our athlete's plates and what they do in their free time."   PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?   "We have a very gifted exciting freshman class incoming, huge potential for the majority of them to push to play sooner rather than later."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2689838' first='Connor' last='Mitchell'] (Fr): Very gritty ball player, undersized at the moment, but is a clear basketball junkie, very fundamentally sound. Has the potential to become the primary ball handler and a huge threat at the varsity level as he grows and matures."   [player_tooltip player_id='2412300' first='Caleb' last='McDonald'](Fr): Great length for a freshman, pesky defender with some huge offensive upside. Has the potential to become a really good inside/outside threat on offense and could be a monster on the boards in the future. Another athlete that has vast varsity potential."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2412301' first='Dawson' last='Downs'](Fr): Excellent court vision for a post player, passes exceptionally well from the entire court. Has taken some big strides over the last 2 years developmental-wise. He has developing post moves and the potential to become a gritty presence for us down the road, another freshman who has varsity potential."   PHD: Who do you think will be your best rebounders?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2124113' first='Cody' last='Amble'] should be our top rebounder this year, he is by far our most athletic kid. He averaged just about 6 last year and should be able to push that number up. He does a good job of attacking the glass on both sides of the ball, and puts himself in a good position."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2412440' first='Tanner' last='McDonald'] should also be another top rebounder for us this year, he'll be playing around the hoop a lot for us so he should have ample opportunities to bring in the rebounds. He has a nose for the ball and does a good job on the glass for us. He does a good job of finding a way to grab loose balls for us."   PHD: What are your team goals this year?   "A very clear goal for our team this year is to be competing late into the season, specifically reaching the Regional Tourney and giving ourselves at a State Qualifying Game."   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "All of our boys have the same goal in mind, and they will all come in with a nose to the grindstone mentality. They push each other to work hard each day, so everyone will be our “hardest worker.”   PHD: Who are some of the top teams & players in your Region?   "Some top teams in our Region: New Rockford Sheyenne, Minto, North Border, Langdon, Mayville, St. John."
