On Tuesday, December 10th I attended the match-up of 6A Casteel hosting 6A Boulder Creek. BC had to drive probably an hour to get there. Both teams will be in the 6A playoffs and both have a chance to make the OPEN Final-8 teams once both rosters are fully healthy and get players eligible after the transfer portal of 9 games.

I checked out two levels with JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

Junior Varsity Game (86-62 Casteel won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2295695' first='Matt' last='Crowder'] Casteel

A thicker framed taller shooting guard can score it with catch threes in rhythm, tough drives in the paint with and-1's and pull-ups. He will rebound and even take a charge. He scored 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552787' first='Landen' last='Martineau'] Casteel

A pure point guard is almost a throw back. He sees plays developing so quickly and will throw the dime. He will throw ropes up the court, slip passes, find cutters and post players. drive and kick and makes the easy reads look effortless. He probably had somewhere near 10 assists. He will also score with mid-range pull-ups, threes with range and layups. He was on the floor diving for loose balls more then anyone I saw all night with a real motor and toughness.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533459' first='Kutter' last='Workman'] Casteel

A skilled power forward with good hands and feet. He can rip thru in traffic and has a nice touch inside the paint. He scores off of pick and roll action and offensive rebounds put backs. He will rebound and blocks shots in his area. He scored 10 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2365144' first='Cameron' last='Koehler'] Casteel

A true combo guard makes plays for his teammates plus shoots it well. The lefty can rattle in threes off the catch, pull-up from mid-range and has a good feel to make a play. A newcomer for me impressed with his awareness and skill. He scored close to 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2433111' first='Jacob' last='Muniz'] Boulder Creek

The freshman scoring point guard is a good passer to make passes with either hand. He sees it well and he will ball fake into a drive and he then will find a teammate. He is also a knockdown shooter when given space with a super quick trigger with range. He has quick hands and feet to defend on the ball. He scored 12+ points.

Varsity Game (77-63 Boulder Creek won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1150843' first='Andrew' last='Bhesania'] Boulder Creek

A versatile power forward can score with threes in bunches, dunks on the break and handles the ball well to create for himself or make a play for others. He gobbled up boards, collected steals and scored 26 points with four 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='1464983' first='Mick' last='Riordan'] Boulder Creek

A scoring combo guard can shoot it with range from three point line with a quick trigger. He will create his own offense off the dibble and has a nasty fall away from mid-range off the dribble. He finds teammates with smart reads and scored 16 points with four 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='1591738' first='Jeehzus' last='Pagan'] Boulder Creek

A pure point guard who defends well had a good shooting night. He will catch and shoot from the three. He is a step faster then most with a burst with either hand. He has really quick hands on defense to strip the ball or get deflections. He scored 19 points with five 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680984' first='Kaleb' last='Conley'] Boulder Creek

A taller wing forward grew a little in the last year and will rattle in threes off the catch. He will slip to the basket after a pick and roll and score thru some contact with and-1's. He scored 11 points with three 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='1369213' first='Amare' last='King'] Casteel

A bigger lead guard who is hyper athletic. The NAU commit scored with back door dunks, multiple post ups, catch threes, mid-range pull-ups and he has an easy burst of speed to get downhill. He will rebound at a high level, find teammates for assists and collects steals and deflections in the passing lanes. He scored 19 points with two 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='1938807' first='Makenzie' last='Lazor'] Casteel

A bigger forward plays a cerebral brand of ball. He is a very good passer and moves the ball like you should. He will rebound in his area and score. He will hit the three off the catch, from mid-range plus score it inside the paint using his size and moving without the ball. He scored 17 points with three 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='2432447' first='Nico' last='Bojorquez'] Casteel

A tough minded scoring point guard can fill it up with catch and shoot threes and dribble drive to the basket with his stronger frame. He will get to the basket and find a teammate. He scored 8 points with two 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='1950118' first='Jeremiah' last='Robertson'] Casteel

An athletic power forward who can put points on the board. He scores with advanced post footwork, he face-ups from mid-range, rip thrus, inside takes and dunks. He is a plus athlete to rebound and threw some nice passes to teammates including a cross court dime in stride. He scored 13 points.
