Conference Commentary

Top Contenders: Houston, Schaeffer Academy, Lyle-Austin Pacelli, Spring Grove

For the Houston Hurricanes the time is now. This big senior class has been playing for many, many years and they are looking at 20 area wins and playing for the league championship. They are a team that has some size too. Schaeffer Academy might just have the best player in the league and they have three starters back. They were three games under .500 a season ago but they should contend. Lyle-Austin Pacelli should contend as they have their best players back and had a very similar season to Schaeffer Academy.

If people are going to catch Spring Grove it would be now. The Lions have their second best player back from a 25 win team but they lost four starters and they have a new coaching staff. But.... this is a strong program with a top player returning as well as several reserves coming back. They pry need to be knocked off before picking them outside the top spot.

Compete with Most: Glenville-Emmons, Kingsland, Leroy-Ostrander, Mabel-Canton, Southland

Glenville-Emmons has some senior guards that should lead them to another double figure win season. The Wolverines are a small team but a team with a good backcourt. Kingsland lost several starters from their 23 win team. They have their good size back and a couple guards so they should be competitive but not likely as good as last year.

Leroy-Ostrander won seven games last year but they have all of their key pieces back and they have all league players returning. They should be better but can they go from seven wins to contending for a league title. We will put them in this group to start the year. Mabel-Canton lost their best player from a .500 team but they return multiple starters so they should be near a double figure win team.

Southland won 22 games last year but they were a very strong senior group and they lost three of their all league honored guys plus another three reserves. They have a couple guys back so they should be solid and in the middle.

Rebuilding: Grand Meadow, Lanesboro

Grand Meadow was winless last year across all 27 games. They only lost two players but it's still a rebuild as Grand Meadow will still be short on upperclassmen. Lanesboro won eight games a year ago and they lost the all but one top contributor. Could be a tough year for the Burros. Could be I said, could be.
