Centerville Tornadoes: Team Preview

Last year the Tornadoes went 14-9, reached the SoDak 16, and were coached by SD Hall of Famer Bill Marquardt. That will be a tough act to follow as the Tornadoes lost some key seniors in Cole Edberg, Brennan Tople, and Covin Wattier…but…Centerville is up to the challenge as they return three starters and an exciting group of underclassmen. Beware of the Tornadoes! He has deep three range with an explosive first step to the rim. He will be a fun player to watch as the season unfolds."   [player_tooltip player_id='2632385' first='Miles' last='Eide'] 6'1 Senior G - "Miles is a sneaky quick and athletic guard with the skills to get to the rim or spot up from the perimeter. He has consistently been one of our better defenders and often receives some of the toughest assignments."   [player_tooltip player_id='1621779' first='Alec' last='Austin'] 6'2 Junior PF/C -  "Alec stepped into the starting line-up last year as a sophomore and is expected to pick up right where he left off. He adds a unique dynamic to our approach as he has a really good inside-out skill set, we are looking forward to seeing him expand his role as the season progresses." He adds great depth to the guard rotation with the ability to step in and hit a big shot or take on a tough defensive assignment." He brings a solid physical presence on defense and is a savvy player with the ball in his hand." He has a great touch from the perimeter and can get downhill and score in the paint on offense. "Last season we were led by head coach Bill Marquardt, went 14-9, reached the SoDak 16 but fell short to an overpowering Castlewood squad."   PHD: Who will be your primary ballhandler this year?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1563482' first='Aiden' last='Bobzin'] has been our point guard the last couple of years, I don't anticipate making a change although we have a nice stable of ball handlers including [player_tooltip player_id='2632385' first='Miles' last='Eide'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2632396' first='Jase' last='Brouwer'] who can step and help get the ball up the court as needed."   PHD: How did the off-season go for your team/program?   "I felt the summer was really good for us. We are really excited about and continue to improve our transition game, looking for quick scoring opportunities, and putting pressure on teams."   PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?   "We got a lot of good young ball players so it's tough to limit it but I really like what sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='2632424' first='Charlie' last='Eide'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2259024' first='Tucker' last='Martz'] showed off the bench this summer. [player_tooltip player_id='2632423' first='Nolan' last='Fischer'] is a 6'3 freshman that has good hands and touch around the rim, he is gonna add depth, but we have a lot of kids that if they put time and effort into developing their skills they are going to have a great season."   PHD: What are your goals for the team this year?   "Our goals are realistic but after making it to the SoDak a year ago the boys would like to make another run, but we are gonna have to make it out of a really competitive Region."   "Otherwise, we are going to take it one game at a time, enjoy each challenge, and hopefully be in a postseason conversation when the dust settles."   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "I have a lot of guys that are willing to grind and work hard which is important as we look to extend our defensive pressure."   PHD: Who are some of the top teams in your Region?   "Viborg-Hurley is the class of our area and possibly the state although there are a lot of really solid teams south of I-90. Parkston and Freeman will certainly be a couple of tough Region opponents."   PHD: Any last comments about the upcoming season?   "The boys and I are excited to get things rolling and I think we will be a fun team to watch as we will look to transition when the opportunity presents itself. If we can stay healthy and play solid defense I think we will be a tough opponent once the postseason rolls around."
