PH Expo: Team 5 Evaluations

Prep Hoops put on The Expo: Michigan on Saturday. The event filled the gym with talented players looking for their fit at the next level. We're going to take a closer look at the players from Team 5. His handles really led the way for his game. Hutcherson could put the ball on the floor and create space. He stayed balanced with the ball and was able to shoot off the bounce. Hutcherson was also able to push pace directly off a rebound.     Reister showed some real game at The Expo. I was impressed with his offensive versatility. He showed the ability to find and get buckets in a variety of ways. Reister had a pretty catch and shoot 3 that he looked very comfortable with. He picked up a hustle bucket simply by wanting it and beating the defense down the floor for an easy transition 2. Reister also had a baseline drive that he finished with a pretty reverse.     This was my first time evaluating Huff and his game, and he was definitely impressive. He was a steady player that put himself in success positions. Huff had a strong lower body and was able to play physical basketball. He was a willing passer that seemed to know when to move or swing the ball.     Mason certainly turned some heads in Grand Rapids. He's a terrific all around athlete with talent to go with a big upside. He had solid strength and frame to go with that athleticism as well. Instead of waiting for a rebound to fall to him, Mason went up after it and got it high off the rim. He also tore down boards with strong hands. Mason was able to finish with at the rim, even through fouls.     Johnson showed that he will be a prospect that coaches will want to keep an eye on this season. There's a lot of potential in his game. I liked his ability to get up and down the floor. Johnson also showed off a nice vertical game on both ends of the floor.     Yanez did a nice job putting his game on display at The Expo. He is just really solid and dependable with the ball in his hands. Yanez did a nice job finding lanes to the rim and attacking them off the bounce. He showed that he could find a cutter in stride with an accurate pass. Yanez did a nice job without the ball, constantly moving and repositioning.     Lefevre was fun to watch in Grand Rapids. There's a lot to be excited about with this rising prospect. I thought that he played a very smart game, especially in a showcase. Lefevre was willing to move the ball and look for the best shot, instead of forcing action. He seemed to make the right passes at the right times.     Calhoun made a big time statement about his game at The Expo. He showed that he can absolutely catch fire and be a complete game changer on the offensive end. Calhoun scored from all 3 levels, from a flip in with touch to an athletic and balanced triple off the bounce. Quite simply, he was an explosive shooter. The best part may have been when he drove and kicked out to an open shooter, passing up a shot for a teammates better one, even when he was heating up.     McGill certainly put his name on the map with his play this weekend. He solid size and frame, and a game to go with it. McGill handled the ball and moved well for his size. This helped him score in a variety of ways. He showed 3 point range on his jumper, finished off a drive with a hesitation move and had multiple put back buckets. McGill did a nice job challenging and blocking shots near the rim.
