High School Spotlight: Crispus Attucks Tigers

The season is still a few months away, but with team workouts starting to take place soon, it is the perfect time to start previewing the season. In this series, we will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and notable games for the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the Crispus Attucks Tigers. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Quick Hitters</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Went 19-7 last season.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Defeated by Lawrence North in Sectionals.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Head Coach Chris Hawkins returns for his 9th season as the head coach. 152-57 overall record.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Viewed a possible favorite in Class 3A to make a deep run in the state tournament. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player:&nbsp;[player_tooltip player_id='1297019' first='Dezmon' last='Briscoe']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Just as it has been pretty much ever since he started his high school career, 2025 power forward [player_tooltip player_id='1297019' first='Dezmon' last='Briscoe'] is the top player once again for this Crispus Attucks team. The dominant big man brings back a double-double of 14.3 point, 10.8 rebounds, 4.2 blocks and is coming off a very impressive summer with Indiana Elite helping them make it all the way to the 3SSB Championship. Briscoe is also one of the few players that has a legit shot at winning Indiana Mr. Basketball and is the reigning two-time Indianapolis City Player of the Year. He recruitment is winding down so once that is finalized, it will be all about helping lead the Tigers to a possible 4A State Championship.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player:&nbsp;[player_tooltip player_id='1728675' first='Elexander' last='Harris']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Crispus Attucks team has a few new faces on it's roster and when looking at who could possibly make the most impact for the Tigers right away, I am going to go with [player_tooltip player_id='1728675' first='Elexander' last='Harris'] who could very well be the breakout player of this time. Harris, who is transferring over from Indianapolis Tech, should come in right away and be one of the main factors in the backcourt for the Tigers. Last season at Tech, Harris averaged 14.0 points and 2.8 assists and with more talent on this roster, you could see a possibility of those number increasing. As a lead guard, Harris is fantastic on the ball and does such a great job creating scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates. He displays some sharp court vision and has proved to be a consistent three-level scorer with his speed on the ball and ability to create.
