August 19th-20th Cedric Cobb Sr and I had the 7th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ. 120 players from a few states came to gain exposure in front of college coaches and scouts plus compete versus some top end players over the two days.

Each player competed in 5 games for the two days plus 60 competed in an extra All-Star Game. (Top-20, Top-40 and a Non-Senior All-Star Game)

We take a look at each team's standouts.

We move over to Team Wash

Played/Made Top-20 Game

[player_tooltip player_id='2337274' first='Brig' last='Bowden'] Mesa (Pictured)

A real front court big who actually plays like a big. He can still step out and hit the three but does most of his work in the paint. He has soft hands with drop step moves into a layup and will corral the ball off the glass and he is a quick leaper to go back up to score or block shots in his area.

Played/Made Top-40 Game

[player_tooltip player_id='2280870' first='Austin' last='Fullmer'] ALA-Queen Creek

A long scoring guard with good size who can seamlessly play on or off the ball. He scores it from all three levels with advanced body control to the basket once he drives it, uses reverse layups, dunks on the break, hits catch threes in bunches, ball fakes into a pull-up and he rebounds well for a guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533435' first='Adrian' last='Taufaasau'] Florence

A long power forward with a plus wingspan was one of the top natural rebounders at the camp. He controlled the glass with offensive rebound put backs and uses a huge motor to compete!! He will occasionally step out but he will mostly live inside the paint. He can dunk it in traffic and plays a physical brand of ball. Look for him to have a huge year in Florence with many double-doubles.

Played/Made Non-Senior Game

[player_tooltip player_id='1873684' first='Tyson' last='Crandall'] Highland

One for the top sophomore scores at the camp is a natural scorer from all levels. He has a clean pull-up from mid to three and seems to live in the 17-feet range. He will throw up the court passes and he can rebound with good timing to score on put backs and has an edge to him with a long line of talented hoopers in his family.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533653' first='Bennett' last='Christensen'] Ben Franklin

The incoming freshman is a bucket. He scores utilizing the floater game, he has a quick burst or will hesitate and get past his initial defender using his left or right hand. He uses his quickness to go baseline to the basket, he can make perimeter jumpers, and he is also a ball mover with an unselfish attitude.

Other Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2136460' first='Landon' last='Christensen'] Ben Franklin

A standstill sharp shooter is a sniper. He hits the three off the catch with a quick trigger but he will also get downhill to the basket with a hard ball fake or a sneaky quick burst. He plays the right way and will throw up the court passes, play fundamentally sound defense and rebound the ball in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533459' first='Kutter' last='Workman'] Casteel

A power forward has a big motor to compete. The lefty will rebound in and out of his area and stay active throughout the game. He will often make the extra pass but he will also score with catch threes and handle it well for position to get to the basket and finish with a sturdy frame.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533456' first='Kaden' last='Schnepf'] ALA Gilbert-North

A point forward type is a newcomer for me. The lefty has a high feel for the game and scores it efficiently around the basket in the paint. He will grab rebounds in and out of his area using his aggression and a desire to go grab the ball. He scores on put backs with proper angles and he is a good passer to find teammates threading a few players in the process.
