August 19th-20th Cedric Cobb Sr and I had the 7th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ. 120 players from a few states came to gain exposure in front of college coaches and scouts plus compete versus some top end players over the two days.

Each player competed in 5 games for the two days plus 60 competed in an extra All-Star Game. (Top-20, Top-40 and a Non-Senior All-Star Game)

We take a look at each team's standouts.

We move over to Team CAL

Played/Made Top-20 Game

[player_tooltip player_id='1542272' first='Michael' last='Payne'] Cholla

A tough two-way scoring point guard can score with deep catch or shoot threes as he gets hot quickly. He will hesitate and burst to the basket and is playing off of two-feet more and more. He will drive and kick it straight into a shooting pocket plus is tough on the ball defensively to collect steals or even block shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2134484' first='Jamal' last='Ali'] Sahuaro

A fluid forward can play from inside and out. He will shoot the three off the catch then score on put backs, hook shots and high flying dunks. He had one incredible put back where he perfectly timed the ball and threw it down in the Top-20 game. He defends on the wing and then in the post.

Played/Made Top-40 Game

[player_tooltip player_id='2432440' first='Alexis' last='Sainz'] Cholla

The big man has elite hands and a high feel for position to make plays. He is a very good passer for position and will score. He uses his top hands and girth to gain position and go to work. He can utilize drop steps plus step out and shoot the three. A huge addition for the Chargers this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2230799' first='John' last='Meza'] Premier Prep

A pure point guard is a two-way player with his quick-twitch lateral quickness. He has real speed in the open court and his first step is tough to handle with a real burst. He can make open perimeter jumpers but loves getting downhill.

[player_tooltip player_id='1540144' first='Quintin' last='Ragland'] Premier Prep (Pictured)

Another two-way guard is tough and hyper competitive to defend with a stronger upper body. He can score getting to the rack but also can shoot it with catch threes and his pull-up has steadily improved each season.

Played/Made Non-Senior Game

[player_tooltip player_id='2135689' first='Jordan' last='Porter'] Mica Mountain

A quick scoring point guard can score from all three levels and handles ball pressure well. He is a little undersized but skilled. He can score with catch threes, use the floater game and he is very elusive to get a step on his defender. He also sees the court well with advanced court vision.

[player_tooltip player_id='1887653' first='Abel' last='Munoz McDaniels'] Rincon

A scoring guard with a high feel for the game. He has a deceptively shifty handle and can burst by his opponents. He can take it into the paint and make a play or score with contested layups. He can shoot it from the perimeter from both levels.

Other Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2134327' first='Trevon' last='Harrison'] Premier Prep

A possible snub by myself had a good showing. A combo guard is very quick and athletic and gets downhill with a burst. He is a good passer and makes smart reads, as he sees the court well. He hit shots from the outside plus dunk the ball in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='2492676' first='Omar' last='Rasul'] Salpointe Catholic

A very physical true power forward is tough to handle around the basket. He has a strong frame and is well built. He will score on put backs after an offensive rebound and uses some post footwork to put points on the board.
