Player Comments from Coach Edman

[player_tooltip player_id='1421530' first='Layke' last='Wold']: "Layke had a great summer for us. He was responsible for initiating our offense on almost every possession and he made sure we were playing the way we wanted. He is an excellent shooter and ball handler, and doesn't take possessions off on defense. He's a great leader on and off the court."

[player_tooltip player_id='1784724' first='Dawson' last='Getz']: "Dawson can do it all. He's great at rebounding and pushing the ball in transition, has a very effective mid-range game, can get to the rim and score while also being a very good 3-point shooter. He got much more comfortable with the ball in his hand and posting up smaller guards as the summer went on and will only get better. Dawson is ready to play at the next level right now."

[player_tooltip player_id='1529877' first='Beau' last='Leslie']: "Beau is a coach's dream. He was our most consistent 3-point shooter all summer, has great footwork in the post (at only 5'10” he was one of our better post-up players), and is an absolute menace on defense. He averaged taking 3-4 charges a game and relished the opportunity to guard the other team's best player regardless of what position they played. Beau is the model I point to when talking to younger players about how to approach practices and games."

[player_tooltip player_id='1529879' first='Myles' last='Meyer']: "Myles had a great summer. At 6'7” he has great footwork and touch, and we were able to do a really good job of getting him the ball where he could use his strength and height to impact the game. He did a great job rebounding on both ends of the court and protecting the rim on the defensive end. He caught the eye of a lot of college coaches throughout the summer."

[player_tooltip player_id='1952117' first='Preston' last='McFayden']: "Preston really took a leap this summer. His ball handling improved week by week and he thrived in his role as a catch-and-shoot guy. He's got a great work ethic and is always in the gym on his own time and looking for drills to do and ways he can improve his game."

[player_tooltip player_id='1535881' first='Carter' last='Tetzlaff']: "Carter was asked to play out of his normal position for a lot of the summer and he took that challenge head-on. He has always had a great ability to get to the rim or get his shot off, but he really improved his ball handling and ability to initiate an offense over the summer too."

[player_tooltip player_id='1328222' first='Rane' last='Kenzy']: "Rane is a beast. He is so quick and strong that trying to guard him in the post looks like a horrible experience. He also has the ability to stretch the floor and make open 3's. He took a lot of pride in his defense and rebounding all summer too. I think he got offended anytime anyone scored on him and was constantly asking to guard the other team's best player."

[player_tooltip player_id='1530220' first='Braxton' last='Pravecek']: "Braxton can play any position 1-4 on the court and provide a matchup problem at each one. He's a good ball handler who can drive past and finish against smaller defenders, but he's also a good enough shooter who can stretch the court and knock down 3's at a really high percentage. Braxton has always had a great work ethic and is always working to become a better player."

[player_tooltip player_id='2328475' first='Noah' last='Bearshield']: "Noah showed more improvement than anyone else we had this summer. Every game we played he got more comfortable with the ball in his hands. At the end of the summer, he was impacting the game at a very high level. He can get to the rim at ease and has a great pull-up jumper. He really started to take pride in his defense too and worked extremely hard on that end of the court."

[player_tooltip player_id='1944190' first='Mason' last='Ennis']: "Mason had a pretty bad string of luck this summer. Picked up a couple of injuries early and then got pretty sick and missed our last couple of tournaments. When he was playing though he was really starting to play some good basketball. He's a great athlete who is quick enough to get past his defender and finish at the rim or strong enough to go through a guy. Really excited to see him get healthy for his school season."

With Zach Edman

PHD: How would you sum up the season for your squad?

"I think we only played 1 tournament together as a full squad. Injuries and sicknesses really hit us hard this summer. But I'm incredibly proud of the way all the guys stepped up to play positions they weren't necessarily used to. We held our own against some of the top teams in the region and these guys proved that they can play with any team on any given day."

PHD: How did your team overcome adversity?

"This team worked hard every single game. It didn't matter how many guys we were missing, or what the score was. They always believed they could win and showed up ready to work and compete. They set the tone for this work ethic from the first game of the season when we got down by 15 early in the game and fought our way back for the win."

PHD: What are a few things your team improved on?

"It's easy to say we improved on the offensive end, which we definitely did, but I'm more impressed with the improvements made on the defensive end. All 10 guys showed that they are able to defend at a high level, get rebounds, and push the ball up the court to get easy shots."

PHD: Who was your top shooter?

"Our most consistent shooter all summer was [player_tooltip player_id='1421530' first='Layke' last='Wold'], he's worked so hard on his shot these past couple of years and it really paid off in a big way this summer. He's good enough to knock down shots from anywhere on the court and has such a good shot if you give him an inch he's going to take it."

PHD: Who was your best rebounder this summer?

"[player_tooltip player_id='1784724' first='Dawson' last='Getz'] was our best rebounder all summer. He's so long and athletic and works so hard to track down rebounds on both ends of the court, and then once he has them he has a natural ability to just put the ball on the court and attack the rim. Our guys knew once Dawson had the rebound to sprint the court because they were going to either get an open look off of a kick-out or a shot at the rim."

PHD: Who was your best defensive player?

"[player_tooltip player_id='1529877' first='Beau' last='Leslie'] is one of the best defensive players in the entire state. All he wants to do during a basketball game is shut down the other team's best player, get rebounds, and take charges. He will take shots on offense as they come to him. But his main focus is on the defensive end. There is not a high school team in the state that would turn down a player with Beau's work ethic and talent."

PHD: Any last comments/thoughts on the season?

"I am so proud of the growth and improvement each one of these guys has shown not just this summer, but over the past couple years. Some of these guys have been with our program since we started and to see how far they've come is really special to have been a part of. They are such a great group of young men and I know they are all going to make big contributions to their High School teams and beyond."
