Following are some brief observations from Team #2 at the Prep Hoops Freshman Showcase held this past Sunday.

[player_tooltip player_id='2539727' first='Elijiah' last='Hines'] 5-9 Orchard Lake St Mary's Another Hines coming through the exceedingly deep St Mary's program. There was an ample supply of backcourt talent. Of that vast grouping. Hines showed the most upside athletically. Moved around the court at a seemingly different pace than his opponents. Not very big— all around with very slender frame. However has extreme length helps him play bigger than his listed height. Also played with maturity and composure. Slowed his team down and got them into sets when play was beginning to get sloppy. A lot of upside with this prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='2383976' first='Braylin' last='Shaw'] 5-10 Detroit UD-Jesuit Staying in the vaunted Detroit Catholic League with Shaw. A heady but small point guard who was a consistent performer on the day. Drove to the basket without fear despite a smaller stature. Seemed to do well driving to the left. Had a quick release on his shot that helped him get it off against taller defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='2539712' first='Benjamin' last='Stier'] 5-9 Marysville Small Port Huron area guard had a good day. Was a feisty rebounder for his size and competed hard down low. Offset size disadvantage with a nice floater that he could get off in traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id='2539718' first='Carter' last='Beimers-Helbich'] 5-11 Grand Rapids Northview A breakout performers of the camp for me. Had one smoothest and easiest release from beyond the arc that I saw on the day. Has the type of release that makes a deep transition pull up feel like the right shot. More than just a three point marksmen. Showed the strength to finish through contact at the rim. Was in constant motion off the ball and a factor defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='2539730' first='Hayden' last='Vess'] 5-11 Grand Haven Vess shot the ball well on Sunday. As you can tell from above. His squad was loaded with small guards and playmakers. While that will probably be Vess' long term position, he was able to pick his spots off the ball. Showed a quick release on an effortless corner three. Hard working gym rat who should improve as he matures.

[player_tooltip player_id='2442240' first='Jacob' last='Ayers'] 6-3 Spring Lake (pictured) Staying on the lakeshore for one of my top overall performers. Ayers showed advanced perimeter skills on a projectable 6-3 frame. The frame is what I found so intriguing. As he showed a high level of playmaking ability. Operated with patience and poise in two man situations. When the play wasn't there with the roll man. Exploded to the rim with strength and confidence. Showed the ability to shoot and finish with both hands. You don't often see this level of playmaking with an 6-3 upperclassmen. Let alone a a player who has yet to step foot in a high school (well maybe he has by now) A lot of potential and upside with this prospect.
