Iowa Freshman Showcase: Team 2 Evaluations

The 5-7 guard out of Minnesota made a major impact on the defensive end, constantly putting pressure on opposing ball-handlers and making them work hard to bring the ball up the floor. He moves well side-to-side and has quick hands. Offensively, he does a nice job not getting sped up, protecting the ball and limiting turnovers. He can knock down open looks off the catch and does a nice job initiating the offense.     Thomas is a small, quick guard who does a great job using his handles, footwork, and speed to create some space to get his shot off. He shoots it really well off the dribble, stopping on a dime and elevating into his jumper, where he's especially good from the mid-range. He sees the floor well and does a nice job keeping the ball moving, getting his teammates involved. Defensively he's a quick guard who moves his feet and uses his hands to pick opposing ball-handlers clean.     Applewhite has a good feel for the game and is a true lead guard who gets his teammates involved. He looks to push the tempo when the opportunity presents itself and is a creative, willing passer. He handles it well and uses his speed to his advantage on both ends of the floor.     Crawley is a talented guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands. He does a nice job getting his feet set and ready to shoot on the catch, and he gets into his shot quickly off the dribble. Despite his smaller stature, he does a nice job absorbing contact around the rim and finishing through it. He's a quick defender who moves his feet well and has good, quick hands.     Cavazos does a great job keeping the ball moving, getting his teammates involved, and knocking down open looks when they present themselves. He has a good looking stroke from the arc and showed some ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. He's a versatile defender who can defend a few different spots on the floor with his length and athleticism.     Kasperbauer was one of the best players in the gym on Saturday afternoon, showing the ability to score from all three levels in bunches. He shoots it really well from the 3-point line off both the dribble and the catch, showing a quick, smooth release off the catch and getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the bounce. He has a great feel for the game, plays with pace and does a nice job changing speeds to get by defenders. He's a long, athletic wing who covers a ton of ground on both ends of the floor. He looks like he'll be one of the top players in the 2028 class.
