With the summer being over and the high school season a few months away, it's that time of year where players are taking visits and researching college programs. With that in mind, we've decided it's a good time to take a look at some under the radar players across the state.

Here's a look at some of the hidden gems in the Hampton Roads area of the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='2451954' first='Aveon' last='Tucker'] | 6'2” CG | Woodside '25

Tucker was an underrated part of Woodside's state championship this past year, as he bought into his role as an energy guy and made a lot of positive impacts for his team. He has good size for a guard and has shown the ability to get in the teeth of the defense to make plays, he can move off the ball where he can knock down shots and he's a very good defender who can guard the other team's best weapon and force turnovers as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2452155' first='Zachary' last='Owens'] | 6'2” WG | Maury '25

Owens is part of a talented Maury team that should be a tough out for many of the teams in the 757, and his emergence as a secondary shot maker will fit in well with them. He's a knock down shooter from deep with good form and good range, he relocates well and can set his feet on the move, he plays with a good motor on both ends and makes positive plays on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='1494116' first='Kassidy' last='Jackson'] | 6'0” PG | Green Run '25

Jackson has been the starting point guard for Green Run since day one and has done a great job leading them to quite a bit of success, and coaches should look at him if they need a point guard with a lot of potential. Jackson is a one man press break and someone who can push the tempo in transition, he's shifty off the bounce with the ability to get by defenders, he makes plays in the paint for himself and others and he's a good on ball defender too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2452244' first='Cameron' last='Walters'] | 5'9” PG | Oscar Smith '25

Walters will have the reigns for a talented and deep Oscar Smith team that should make a deep run in the playoffs this year, and he's the type of lead guard who fits this team perfectly. He's a scrappy smaller guard who gets under ball handlers and makes them uncomfortable, he makes great reads both in transition and in the half court, he can make open shots off the catch and he can create something out of nothing when he has to.

[player_tooltip player_id='2452276' first='Triston' last='Skipwith'] | 5'8” PG | Lake Taylor '25

Skipwith may be in a crowded backcourt for LT who will be another very deep team this year, but the way that he's shot the basketball over the summer he'll have to be on the floor. At 5'8” he's not the biggest guy but he can really stretch the defense with his deep range, he can get by defenders off the bounce and he's a scrappy competitor who gets after it on both ends.

[player_tooltip player_id='2452264' first='Justin' last='Ellis'] | 6'6” C | Kellams '25

Ellis may not look like it as he looks more like an offensive lineman, but if someone can help get his body right he possesses an intriguing skillset as a stretch big man. At 6'6” with his frame and he can clear out space and is a creative finisher with both hands, he can step out on the perimeter where he can knock down shots and stretch the defense and he is a good passer as well.
