The last GASO event of the year had representation from Texas and the bordering states such as Oklahoma and Louisiana. From just those two states, there were some impressive players. The Adidas teams who played in the Great American Shootout were very good. They had point guards who guided their teams to numerous victories. In this review of the GASO, we will look at some of the lead guards who impressed from Oklahoma and Texas.

Joshua Weems (FLASH! Elite 2026) - Last summer, Weems was more of a defender and change of pace guard for FLASH!. At the GASO, Weems was a take charge individual who put his team on his back at times. Joshua was very good at penetrating and then shooting fade-away jumpers from all angles. Weems was also very good at getting into the paint and finding shooters on the perimeter. He has definitely improved as a player and is a point guard who asserts himself on the floor.

BG Gill ([program_tooltip program_id='2076144' first='Houston' last='Superstars']) - The 5'11" floor general was very impressive in their loss to OWE EYCL. Gill is a point guard who knows how to control the floor at all times when the ball is in his hands. Whether in the half court or transition, he was aware of getting certain spots to make passes or take his own shot. Gill made three triples on the road to 18 points during the game. In his preparation to shoot or pass, he balances himself well and made decisive decisions with the ball. Gill played at a high level last Sunday.

Dalton Forsythe ([program_tooltip program_id='2078402' first='Team' last='Griffin'] EYBL 16U) - Forsythe played the point as well as it could be played in the game against FLASH! Elite. He pushed the ball down the floor aggressively and found shooters time and time again. On the defensive end, he played solid man-to-man defense and hounded other point guards into making mistakes. Forsythe was one of the better defenders facing point guards on the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='1225429' first='Uzziah' last='Buntyn'] (ASAK 17U 3SSB) - Buntyn was another point guard from Texas who played well during the GASO. He showed aggressiveness against the teams he played and was very good at penetrating the paint. He uses driving angles very well and knows where his shooters are. Buntyn also knows his personnel and who to get the ball to and where to get it to them. Along with defending, he is as solid as they come at the point.

Micah Moore (ISO Joe 16U EYCL) - Small and creative point guards create a lot of havoc on the floor when they play. Micah Moore fit that bill during his GASO weekend. He created situations for his team to score over and over again with his ability to penetrate. He took big perimeter shots on offense and surveyed the lane to get others shots while providing superb ball pressure on defense. Moore played at a high level and displayed that a lack of height can be an advantage.

Point guard play was at a premium in Carrollton during GASO weekend. If a team played with good lead guard play, more times than not, they were victorious. These guards all fit into that profile. These are point guards coaches should have on their radar when looking for point guards.
