The 2024 Sizzlin' Summer Shootout took place June 7th and 8th in Greenville, South Carolina. It is one of my favorite events of the entire year and has been a June must-stop since before my Prep Hoops days. There were 32 teams in action across two division and 3 locations and it concluded with Boiling Springs High School claiming the Silver Bracket Crown and Oceanside Collegiate Academy claiming the Gold Bracket Crown. Take a look at this list of Rising Seniors who stood out from the Gold Bracket:

[player_tooltip player_id='2173801' first='Gabriel' last='Riesgo'] is the first of two Oceanside Collegiate Landshark 2025s who played an important role in their Sizzlin' Summer Shootout Gold Bracket Championship. He was the Point Guard for the Landsharks and while he had a solid performance in the final with 6 Assists, I was really impressed with his performance against Fountain Inn on Friday. He displayed his shiftiness, open-floor burst, quick first step, crossover, and ability to hit spot up shots. Gabriel makes good reads and balances making plays for himself and for others well. He put up 11 Points, 5 Assists, and 2 Steals in that matchup with Fountain Inn.

Jones is the other Landshark I was impressed with this weekend. He is one of their wings that they count on to knock down shots and stretch the floor, but he also has the length to affect the game on the defensive end. Carson knocked down 5 threes between the 2 games I watched of Oceanside Collegiate in Greenville including 2 very important ones near the end of the first half in the Sizzlin' Summer Shootout Gold Bracket Championship Game.

Mylan had a solid week for the Yellow Jackets in the Gold Division. He has a slightly unorthodox shot release, but it is both consistent and effective for him. He knocked down 4 threes in a matchup with Ridge View in one of Friday's group play matchups. Hames also got downhill a couple of times and had some nice finishes, going for 18 Points and hauling in 4 Rebounds. In the Championship Game on Saturday, Milan made some plays that sparked some energy for Greer including a drawn charge, an and-1 finish, and two more threes. If Hames continues this type of play he could carve out a real role for this squad in the winter.

Quan played one of the better games I've seen him play with Powdersville on Saturday Morning. He looked aggressive and in attack mode all game long, getting out in transition or attacking his man in the half court. He had some very acrobatic finishes in the second half, bouncing off bigger bodies or going up and under to use the rim as protection. Burton can also bring the ball up and facilitate the offense in spurts, and he plays hard defense all the time. He crashes the boards hard and is encouraged to push the pace if he brings one down. Although the Patriots lost to Greenville in the one game I saw of them, Quan was a bright spot racking up 9 Points and 7 Rebounds.

Austin has always been an intriguing prospect in my opinion, so it was good to see him back with his high school squad this weekend. He is a big with a good body and tremendous athleticism that puts in work on both ends of the floor. He works hard for position in the post and has a solid post-game or can be effective in the pick-and-roll. Austin will be aggressive on the defensive end whether his shots are falling or not and is a strong rebounder and rim protector. He also had a couple of high-flying dunks in transition. Austin went for 12 Points and 7 Rebounds in a loss to Oceanside Collegiate on Friday.
