The team camp is a good platform for players and squads alike to build chemistry going into next year and the second half of the summer session. Let us look at some players who stood out on Saturday during the main slate of games.
Christian was the main scorer/facilitator in Mayde Creek’s early morning loss to Crosby on Saturday at the Rice Camp. Gibson possesses a high motor and controls the offense with good pace. He can lock you up on defense full court and give you a quick bucket in transition as well as set teammates up for success. He is just a great overall team leader and continues to impress throughout the summer. Gibson picked up an offer from Rice later that same day after his performance.
Aiden was impressive in STE’s afternoon loss to Katy Jordan on Saturday at the camp. Law can score the basketball in a variety of ways and has very high IQ decision making with the rock in his hands. He commands the offense well and doesn’t force bad shots as well as showing the ability to create space off the dribble.
Reese was a multi level scorer and playmaker in Second Baptist’s evening win over Ft. Bend Austin. He blends high IQ and pace setting from the point guard slot as well as taking smart shots and scoring at all three levels. Alston is effective off the pick and roll as the ballhandler, setting up his big men nicely with good opportunities to score as well as driving to the rim and finishing through contact or pulling up in the midrange.

Brown was by far and away Dawson’s most efficient scorer in their mid day contest against Booker T. He is efficient off the fadeaway post jumper and can give matchup problems in the midrange and on the perimeter. Ja’Lon is comfortable handling the interior responsibilities on defense and can send away shots at the rim with ease. He also is deceptive with his speed driving to the basket.
Marcellus demonstrates versatility and athleticism while he is on the floor and helped to shoulder the offensive load in a win over Ft. Bend Austin in the afternoon. Parks has elite toughness when battling in the paint for loose rebounds and touches, as well as not shying away from contact and consistently drawing fouls. One of the main parts of his game I liked is that he does not get rattled easy bringing the ball up, even with a defender pressing him full court.

Lewis was a main force for his team in their early morning blowout against Paetow on Saturday. I really am a big fan of his uptempo play and shiftiness when creating for himself on the offensive side of the ball. He can shoot off the dribble or beat a defender to the basket with a quick variety of moves. He also handles pressure well in a half court setting and shows calm throughout the storm.
