Spencer was one of my favorite prospects to watch this weekend and he led his team to the 17U championship. He has a lengthy 6’7” frame, but has many traits of a guard. He can create for himself from the perimeter, doing all of his scoring either from beyond the arc or at the rim. He was taking slower defenders off the dribble or could use his size to score on smaller defenders inside. Swenson also looked good running in transition, throwing down some dunks and converting on some acrobatic finishes.
Highlights
Brooks was dominant this weekend, leading his team to a perfect 5-0 record and the 17U title. He is such a versatile player and is a threat playing both with the ball or off the ball. He was knocking down looks from the perimeter and also did some damage inside as an attacker. He has a strong 6’6” frame and used that to fight through multiple defenders at a time. Johnson is also capable of making plays above the rim with his athleticism.
Highlights
Baboucarr is already such a versatile player and has tons of potential. He stands at 6’4” and has a ton of length, which he used to cause disruption on the defensive end of the floor. He got his long arms into passing lanes and was great at swarming opposing ball handlers in traps. Offensively, Ann really impressed creating shots for himself using the dribble. He connected with a couple shots from beyond the arc and could hit defenders with a barrage of moves to get downhill for a finish.
Highlights
Noah had a breakout performance in a win over a tough Minnesota Gold team. He hit the game winner on a strong drive and left handed finish over a defender. He started the game off hot from beyond the arc and was a consistent scoring option all throughout the game. He has a lengthy frame and can get shots off quickly in the catch-and-shoot. Hamburge is a great option to have playing off the ball and can heat up fast from the perimeter.
Ty is more than capable of scoring from the perimeter, but I was impressed with how he found success inside this past weekend. He was a beast rebounding on the offensive side of the ball, being able to battle through contact for tough finishes. He had four second chance baskets following an offensive rebound in one game on Saturday. Schlagel also brought the energy on defense, being key in his team forcing a ton of turnovers.
Highlights
Hudson’s athleticism was on full display this past weekend. He was making huge plays above the rim in both of the games I saw, giving his team tons of momentum down the stretch in hard fought wins. He rose up for a few alley-oop dunks and picked up some mean blocks on the defensive end. I also saw Hudson show off his touch around the basket, looking comfortable converting on floaters. Omoke is the perfect surrounding piece on this Minnesota Comets team, with many ball handlers and shooters.
Highlights
Eli has been one of my favorite offensive weapons to watch this spring. His game is so smooth and thrives when creating shots for himself using the dribble. He has many ways he can create space from a defender, being able to pull up in the mid-range or from beyond the arc. Schroeder has also improved as an athlete, which is very evident on takes to the basket.
