NEPSAC Showcase at Avon: Day 2 Frontcourt Standouts

We're back for the second day of the NEPSAC Showcase at Avon Old Farms with a new batch of teams and players playing. Most of these players finished their weekend earlier Saturday, and we'll have recaps from the Sat night/Sun afternoon games coming in the next couple days. Here are the frontcourt standouts from day 2 (Saturday).    Downey-Lamprey has a college level body right now. He has a built frame and punishes other wings on the glass as a result. He also showed a solid three-point shooting stroke that is backed up by a 36% clip during the winter season. Downey-Lamprey plays hard and is probably best utilized as a versatile defensive stopper against all five positions. He should be a high level D3 guy.     Burke is an undersized big man with enough strength and vertical pop to make up for it. He is a menace on the glass with a high level motor and is not afraid to bang bodies with far larger players in the paint, making him a more-than-solid defender. Offensively, Burke can face up and take slower bigs to the rim; he can also finish with both hands and is an above-the-rim athlete. Would imagine he'll get scholarship looks.     Odutayo is a 6-foot-7 versatile forward who probably could've slid into the ‘wing' category. He's able to set screens and roll to the rim but can also pop out for threes and even create on the ball occasionally. He's a great athlete who should continue to refine his skills throughout the year and make himself a scholarship-ready player. He already holds multiple D1 offers.     The 6-foot-8 post-grad is an intriguing pick and pop threat who sets good, hard screens and can knock down shots from the outside. He's also a threat on the low block and was able to hit a couple of impressive fadeaway jumpers off one leg. Defensively, Scarborough is tough but won't elevate to block too many shots. He'll likely earn a scholarship somewhere.     One of my favorite bigs in the class, Alekseyenko is a 6-foot-8 point forward who must've been watching a lot of Nikola Jokic. He's a phenomenal passer out of the post and is very cerebral with the ball in his hands. He's even developed a better looking shot from long range since the last time I saw him. Already has D1 offers and many others will be rolling in.     Veillette is an ultra-skilled big man who has a very versatile offensive game. He can play with his back to the basket but can also be an offensive hub in the pick and roll/dribble handoff game. He brings his offensive game together with a beautiful outside shot and great passing instincts. Definite D1 player with a handful of offers already.
