The 2024 Liberty Summer Slam took place on Wednesday, June 12th featuring some interesting programs from the Upper State’s smaller classifications. Each team played twice, so it gave us a good idea of which prospects have improved and which teams we should watch closely in the fall. Check out these six prospects that I was impressed by from Wednesday at the Liberty Summer Slam:
Kenrick Jackson had a nice combination of games Wednesday’s hosts at the Liberty Summer Slam. I got to watch Kendrick and the Red Devils in both of their games in the event and his performances showed his balanced skillset: attack-mode scoring in Game 1 and two-way playmaking in Game 2. He is capable of scoring from all three levels on the floor and is comfortable spotting up and creating a shot off the dribble. He crashes the glass on both ends and displays his athleticism by grabbing the ball high. In Game 1, Jackson went for 15 Points and 9 Rebounds while he racked up 6 Assists and 3 Steals in Game 2.

Bryson was a major reason why the Sabres turned it around in the second half against Wade Hampton and went 2-0 at the Liberty Summer Slam. He made good decisions in transition offense, finished through contact several times, and displayed his sound feet by playing off two or spinning in the lane. Duck also has good speed and balances making plays for himself and his teammates well. In the win over the Generals, Bryson put up 12 Points, 5 Assists, and 2 Steals.

Ream will be an interesting prospect if he continues to develop well. He has good size and length with the ability to shoot it or create off the dribble. Spencer is actually very comfortable handling the ball and showed off a few nice step-backs and behind-the-back moves to create space for himself. One specific play where he flashed his potential came in the second half when Southside Christian were on their run. Ream was spotting up in the corner, then drove baseline, and finished with a beautiful reverse layup avoiding a shot blocker and spinning it in with his right hand. He finished with 9 Points in the win.

Jamarion McKinney
I was impressed by Jamarion’s game as well. He is a tremendous athlete who is strong and shifty. McKinney gets downhill at will and although he favors his left hand, he showed an ability to finish with either hand. Jamarion is also capable of pulling up in the mid-range, which is important to keep his matchup off-balance. McKinney can do more than just score though. He drives with his head up looking for teammates, crashes the glass, and can even block some shots in rotation. He is not a spot-up shooter, but he won’t be asked to do that much due to the Generals Roster Construction. Jamarion put up 17 Points in a close loss to Southside Christian.
The Jamerson Twins stood out to me at the Liberty Summer Slam. I was familiar with Diondre from his time with the Pasadena Stars this Spring. He made the move to St Joes from Carolina to join up with some of his AAU Teammates and Coaches and he has flourished there so far. Jamerson is a confident scorer from all three levels, getting to his spots in the mid-range, finishing at the bucket, or spotting up from behind the arc. His length was used on the defensive end, guarding Pendleton’s Point Guard in an attempt to slow down their rhythm.

Keandre Jamerson
Keandre Jamerson
Keandre had more of an all-around game in the win over Pendleton. He put up 11 Points, 4 Rebounds, and 3 Assists, using his athleticism and handle to get to the rack and finish or head to the free-throw line. Jamerson has a beautiful spin move that he used successfully a couple of times. Keandre also displayed his terrific defensive instincts, jumping passing lanes to lead to runouts for him or transition opportunities for his teammates.
