Continue ReadingElite prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) have begun the annual ritual of transferring high schools. With the NCAA transfer portal jamming up high school recruiting, we expect there will be a host of extremely talented players who switch schools this spring / summer. Many of them will reclass into a later graduate year.
At Prephoops.com we will do our best to track all the player movements and pass that information on to our readers.
Below is the fifth installment in our Transfer Watch 2024 series.
Filippo Galli – 6’6″ / 2025 / Hill School / Power Forward: Galliisa traditionalpowerforwardfrom Italy. He playedthe2023–24seasonforVanoliCremonainItaly’sLBAA–League. Last year was his third season with that Italian club team. Galli has flashed solid low post skills and a jump shot with decent range. He is also a plus rebounder. Galli will provide much needed frontcourt depth for Hill.
Matthew Kapfer – 6’5” / 2025 / Phelps School / Riverside Select / Shooting Guard: In 2023-24 Kapfer was a CHSAA-NYC All-League performer out of Fordham Prep (NY). He averaged 14.7 points to go along with 7 rebounds per game while shooting 67% from the field. During his senior campaign Kapfer posted a two-game stretch where he recorded 23.5 ppg. and 8 rpg. Kapfer does the bulk of his damage on dribble drives, mid-range pull ups and in transition. But he will sprinkle in the occasional three ball. Kapfer will be a post graduate student-athlete at Phelps.
Carlos Rodriguez – 6’3” / 2025 / Phelps School / Kips Bay MHC / Combo Guard: Overhishighschoolcareer, this Scarsdale HS (NY) product was a 1,000+-point scorer and a three-time all-conference selection. Rodriguez (18 ppg.) is a three-level scorer with enough dribble skills to play as a secondary ball handler. When he is not looking to score, Rodriguez does a respectable job of distributing to teammates off the live dribble. He has a reputation for getting hot and taking over stretches of games. Rodriguez holds an offer from Manhattan.
Jake Scherzer Jake Scherzer 6'1" | CG Springside Chestnut Hill Academy | 2027 State PA – 6’1″ / 2027 / SCH Academy / East Coast Power HGSL / Shooting Guard: In April we highlighted Scherzer’s lethal three-point shooting after he and his ECP teammates tore up the competition at the Pitt Jam Fest (3-1). Scherzer owns a quick trigger as well as NBA range and thrives coming off down screens for open looks. His dribble drive skills are solid too. Scherzer will put the ball on the deck to get all the way to the cup. He can also slam on the breaks and hit a mid-range jumper. The former Abington Friends player will transfer to SCH Academy.
