Night one of the Prep Hoops Michigan State Tournament is in the books as there were only two sets of games on the first night. I was able to see some really talented players and close games. Here were the top players from those games.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218020' first='Jaden' last='Bowman'] 6'5 [program_tooltip program_id='2077033' first='West' last='Michigan Lakers'] 2025

Bowman is a workhorse forward who scored 22 points by outworking guys around the rim. Jaden showed good hands and concentration around the bucket. He posted up well and got good positioning over smaller defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='2058632' first='Joey' last='Angok'] 6'10 [program_tooltip program_id='2077033' first='West' last='Michigan Lakers'] 2025

The most noticeable player on the court when you walk into the gym. Joey is an active big man who challenges shots at the rim. He had several blocks as I watched from different courts. As an offensive player he plays more as a faceup big and was very good at running high-low plays to Bowman. Angok has fluid movement and runs the court very well. He has the tools to be an amazing college prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='2446775' first='Aquan' last='Foster'] 5'10 [program_tooltip program_id='2269794' first='United' last='Persuit'] 2025

Foster led with 16 points hitting a pair of threes in the first half. He made tough plays getting in the lane and scoring over the much taller Lakers. Aquan showed good touch on his shot and was effective at getting to the free-throw line.

[player_tooltip player_id='2360485' first='Laizon' last='Tooson'] 5'9 Midwest Stampede 2026

I was impressed at how Laizon controlled the game while being down 9 points in the second half. He used his handle and shifty moves to freeze guys at times then get to the rim. Tooson was very tough to keep out of the lane. He was one of the better guards I watched Friday night. Laizon was also impactful on defense forcing several steals that led to points as he helped his team come from behind and take a 1-point lead. He finished with 13 points and a handful of assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218009' first='Danzell' last='Calhoun'] 6'1 Midwest Stampede 2026

Calhoun had some really good moments when his team needed points. He's a physical scoring guard who often looked for contact before finishing with tough layups. Danzell played at slower pace that works for him. He was able to finish using both hands and occasionally made difficult passes when he had extra attention on him.

Ethan Trombley 6'0 [program_tooltip program_id='2425129' first='Eastside' last='Gators'] 2026

Trombley is a three level crafty scoring guard who gets to his spots with uncanny ball handling. Ethan scored in moments when his team would go on droughts. He used spin moves and step through moves to prevent the ball from being stolen. When he played on the perimeter he utilized solid spacing to nail two threes. Ethan led his team in scoring with 14 points and a win.
