ORANGE and LOS ANGELES COUNTIES — We were in Southern California for the first live viewing period of the spring club and travel ball season. The MADE Hoops and EHA Circuit collaboration was once again the best tournament for competition and prospect viewing in SoCal and below we take a look at the top playmakers we saw at the 17u level who played well in front of college coaches and scouts.

[player_tooltip player_id='1979831' first='Devon' last='Mack'] | 2024 | Team Arsenal

The 5-foot-10 point guard proved to be a two-way playmaker with this feisty on-ball defense leading to turnovers and his speed, quickness, vision and unselfishness resulting in transition buckets and assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956521' first='Elijah' last='Smith'] | 2026 | Prodigy Elite

Smith is a steady and high IQ point guard whose ability to play smart in various situations allows him to control the tempo of the game for his team. At 5-feet-8, Smith is a floor general type of guard who looks to get teammates involved off of paint touches and delivers on-time and on-target passes.

[player_tooltip player_id='1631543' first='Hudson' last='Floyd'] | 2025 | Built4Ball Force

Defenses had a hard time keeping Floyd out of the lane over the weekend because of his ability to navigate middle and side ball screens and use his low center of gravity to keep defenders on his hip to get into the lane. The 5-foot-11 Gonzaga Prep (WA) product scored on floaters and made it a point to kick to open teammates.

Jaiyon Gardner | 2026 | NW Rotary Rebels

The former California-based point guard had a good return to SoCal as his steadiness as a decision-maker and passer combined with his creativity off the bounce allowed him to be a set up guy for teammates or for himself. Gardner is at his best in the open court where he uses his vision to throw hit-ahead passes to teammates for transition buckets.

[player_tooltip player_id='1630657' first='JJ' last='Sanchez'] | 2025 | South Bay Show

Sanchez is one of the best passers that we have in SoCal high school basketball. The 6-foot-4 guard/wing is an assist or basket waiting to happen and he always manages to wow on-lookers with his feel for the game and vision. Sanchez has elite footwork, pace and touch around the basket and was such an effective low block scorer and creator he drew double teams throughout the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='2137372' first='Josiah' last='Johnson'] | 2026 | Los Angeles Elite

Johnson continues to see his stock rise this spring and put together another impressive performance over the weekend. The 6-foot-3 combo guard was attacking the rim with confidence and aggressiveness and used his length and athleticism to challenge rim protectors. Johnson is also a ball-hawking on-ball defender and anticipatory help defender.

Mason Magee | 2026 | Vegas Elite

Magee is the quintessential floor general mold of point guard in that he's always looking to be a connector. The 6-footer has the ability to play at multiple speeds without losing control of his body or the basketball and has an unselfishness to his game that sometimes borders on too unselfish. Magee sees the court with the best guards out west and can change speeds and directions at the drop of a hat to get paint touches.
