Continue ReadingAs the afternoon continued at Spring Lake Park High School competition heated up at the Battle of the Lakes. With many compelling matchups that came down to the wire, allowing players to showcase their skills. Here are some of the players that shined on Sunday afternoon.
The Northstar Titans 2027 center showed out in a 12:20 matchup with the Minnesota Heat . Gerth made the most of his time on the floor providing solid defense in the paint, pushing players towards the perimeter and making life hard on the opposition. Snagging rebounds on both offense and defense using size to his advantage to get the opponents of the ball. Offensively he grabbed more than a few boards and generated offense in the paint, drawing a few fouls as well.
Highlights
In Sanford Sports Academy 2027 Grey’s matchup on court 3 against CW Hoops, Hudson King came up big for Sanford multiple times. Fighting through contact to get to the basket and score. King’s vision was impressive as well, finding open passes all over the floor and creating plays when there was seemingly nothing there. Including a long range pass in transition to find a teammate down low and score.
Highlights
Geoffrey Nelson had no problem finding space outside and nailing shots from long range. Using his awareness of where he is on the floor as well as where opponents are to create space and find an open look. His foot work also helps him create space, with a solid step back to nail a three on one occasion.
Nyemah played solid on defense for the Northstar Titans in their afternoon cross pool matchup with the Minnesota Heat . Nyemah had a quick side to side movement to easily get to the ball and make plays defensively. Anticipating where the play was going picking up the opposition to either block the ball or force the ball elsewhere.
Highlights
Joe Larson Joe Larson 6’0″ | CG Zimmerman | 2027 MN showed nice finish for the Northstar Titans making plays fighting through defenders in order to drive the lane and finish. Not afraid of contact and able to keep driving to get to the basket and create offense in the paint. Fighting through contact allowed him to draw fouls and get to the free throw line.
