Bash in the Desert 17U 3rd Team

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>May 3rd-5th I attended the annual&nbsp;<strong>Bash in the Desert</strong>&nbsp;at the Phhacility and Valley Vista HS locations. It had nearly 60 teams total and I watched 80% of all the teams to form a good opinion of the field.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I watched 20+ of the 25 17U teams and</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is my&nbsp;<strong>All-Individual 3rd Team</strong>&nbsp;for 17U:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>These are a combination of teams performance combined with how the individual played.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2432426' first='Marshall' last='Gillette'] Northwest Christian ([program_tooltip program_id='2075793' first='Arizona' last='Select'] James 2025) (Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A newcomer for me is a physical front court player. He uses his thicker frame to bounce off of defenders and score in the paint or get fouled. He rebounds well in his area and can step out and hit the three. He will drive and kick it and boxes out his man well. The 3A North Central Region player of the year plays football and committed to NAIA <strong>Oklahoma Wesleyan University.&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1162451' first='Jayce' last='McGuirk'] Phhoenix Prep ([program_tooltip program_id='2075793' first='Arizona' last='Select'] UAA)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong scoring guard can hit the catch three point shot and his bounce keeps showing off when he plays from rebounding and defending his position. He also boxes his man out strongly. He has a tough spin move to utilize to get downhill and score using his sturdy frame and bounce.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1381426' first='Luke' last='Wieskamp'] Brophy Prep ([program_tooltip program_id='2075793' first='Arizona' last='Select'] UAA)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long wing forward with supreme bounce. He scores on dunks, runs the floor for layups and will hit catch threes. He is a very good rebounder in his area and will block a shot too. He comes off screens, pick and rolls and fires away from the three point line with an ultra quick shooting release. He can also rise up off the dribble from mid-range and will get out in transition to score.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2357161' first='Jayden' last='Standifer'] Cholla (Tucson Spartans Black)&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong framed post player with long arms. He scores on offensive rebound put backs, hook shots, fall aways in the post. and-1's in traffic and he can hit the mid-range jumper. He has a nice touch on his FT's and made some clutch ones down the stretch in one of his games.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1542272' first='Michael' last='Payne'] Cholla (Tucson Spartans Black)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A very quick scoring point with a lightning quick three point release. He can make off balanced shots in traffic and will take the bump and score. He will rebound out of his area and has quick feet to pester the opposing ball handlers. He hit a clutch three with 20 seconds left to take a 56-54 lead in one of their games.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1286022' first='Ryan' last='Nelson'] Pinnacle (Peak Prelude Mali)&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A physical combo guard is a natural driver and comes with some bounce. He handles contact with his sturdy build and frame very well. He is deceptively fast to get downhill and can get hot from the perimeter. He is strong on the ball defensively and plays with energy. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1950118' first='Jeremiah' last='Robertson'] Casteel ([program_tooltip program_id='2091922' first='Hunter's' last='Elite'] National)&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A hyper athletic power is their anchor on defense. They went undefeated and he was a big part of it. He moves well in space to block shots and rebounds well. He is a supreme rim runner and finisher and blocks or alters a bunch of shots per game.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Josh Thompson SG 2025 Del Norte/CA (Gamepoint Inland Empire 2025) </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A natural scoring guard has deep three point range and can blow by his initial defenders with dribble drives to the basket and score. He uses runners and floaters well but his deep range on his shot makes his game go!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
