Kwa was one of the quickest players I saw in the event this weekend and it is fun to watch him get out and play fast. He is an excellent finisher around the rim, having the ability to hang in the air for acrobatic finishes. His strengths come when he is getting inside, where he usually just needs one move to work around his defender. The freshman guard is also unselfish, being able to make accurate kick out passes off of his drives. I liked the effort and intensity he brought on the defensive end as well.
Azayah had a great performance on Saturday and was the player who jumped out to me most on a loaded D1 Minnesota 17U team. He is a scoring threat from anywhere on the floor, as he was getting buckets from inside and outside. He is a great shooter from deep, being able to play off the ball or create when the ball is in his possession. He can also slash to the basket, showing off his deep bag of moves to blow by his defender for finishes. Washington was one the leading scorers in Minnesota during the high school season.

Marco had a huge performance in a hard fought win on Sunday. He took over down the stretch when his team needed him most, making big play after big play. He is a knockdown shooter from deep, connecting with several looks out of the catch-and-shoot. He was usually one of the smaller players on the floor, but showed no fear attacking the basket. He also was a pest defensively, forcing turnovers that resulted in easy layups on the other end.
Eli was one of my favorite players to watch on the offensive side of the ball this weekend, as he has such a smooth, well rounded game. He is a true three level scoring threat who can use the dribble to create open looks for himself. He was getting to his spots in the mid-range where can connect with tough shots off balance or with a hand in his face. He can knock down triples off the catch or off the dribble, and even showed off his athleticism with a two-handed dunk in transition.

De’Von brings so much to any team he is a part of with the effort and intensity he plays with on both sides of the ball. He is one of the best on-ball defenders in Minnesota and is usually matched up with the opposing team’s best offensive player. He picks up full court and is constantly pressuring the ball which results in many forced turnovers. He also has a solid offensive game, as I saw him knock down some shots off the dribble and get downhill for contested finishes at the basket.

Joel was great in both of the games I saw him in on Sunday. He did the majority of his scoring work around the basket, where he does a great job of staying under control on his drives. He is a phenomenal finisher, being able to use either hand when converting on layups through traffic. He has a tight handle and made it look easy when getting around his defender, as well as showing flashes of a pull-up game in the mid-range. Saah will make the move to Park Center next year after a solid sophomore season at Armstrong.

Ben Koch had a monster performance on Sunday. The 8th grader was playing up at the 15U level this weekend and shined in a competitive game with Minnesota Gold. He was automatic from beyond the arc and was pulling up when given any space. He looked really good when getting to his floater, being able to loft shots over the defense, as he was usually the shortest player on the floor. He could also get his teammates involved, running the point most of the game. A lot to like out of the East Ridge 2028 point guard.
