The senior stepped up as a leader both on and off the court for the Wildcats, helping them reach a playoff berth for the first time since 2019.
“Last year, I was kind of like in a sixth man role and I got the opportunity to learn from the seniors,” Choi said. “This year, we didn’t sub five in, five out, so I just took that opportunity and tried to improve my leadership as well. Last year, I was a confident shooter but I shot like 22 percent from three. So I mainly worked on my shot and then my pull-up and finishing, scoring at all three levels.”
The results were clear on the court. Choi averaged a team-high 14.1 points while also tallying 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He upped his three-point shooting percentage to over 35 percent, hitting over two per game. While there’s no doubt the Wildcats would have benefitted from his presence on the court during their playoff appearance, there’s also no question his play helped them get into position to qualify for the post-season.
Choi is just about fully healed from his injury and is going to play on the AAU circuit as an unsigned senior to elevate his college recruitment. He noted that he’s currently hearing the most from Portland CC and College of the Siskyious in California, but is hopeful he can grab more attention. While he would preferably like to go to a four-year school to start, he’s keeping all options open.
“I would just like a system that I could shoot and push the ball,” Choi said. “Anywhere that’s a good fit – I just want to hoop.”
Choi will be playing with Team Progress, which will be playing on the Adidas Gold Circuit. He finished as the #54 player in the final Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
