It was a busy weekend in New England, with four more prospects coming off the board in just the past few days.
Alesso recently announced that he will continue his basketball career in Florida when he attends Stetson University. A true 7′ center, Alesso fits the mold of a modern day European big man. He’s comfortable playing with the ball in his hands and has even shown the ability to convert defensive rebounds into early offense as a pusher in transition. He’s capable of making shots on the perimeter, particularly as a trailer at the top of the key. His touch around the rim is exceptional, as he’s able to finish in a variety of ways. Defensively, he takes up a lot of space and does a good job controlling the glass on that end. This should be a nice combination of fit and level for the Argentinian native, as I’d expect that he’ll have a chance to carve out an immediate role in the ASUN.
Michael Porter
Michael Porter
Porter’s commitment came at the start of the high school season, and as a result, slipped under our radar. Nevertheless, the Scituate guard is off the board and headed to Ithaca College. A pure scorer, Porter had a terrific senior season, leading Scituate to the MIAA Division II Elite 8. He has good positional size and great length that compliments his high basketball IQ. A three-level scorer, he’s at his best when he can leverage his shooting to open up driving lanes. He’s a consistent perimeter shooter that should only continue to get better with more reps. Defensively, he has the ability to guard either back-court spot and does a good job of keeping the ball out of the paint. He’s the type of prospect who will only get better as he gets older and continues to get stronger and I’d expect that he’ll have a nice four year career in the Liberty League.
Jaydon Buckle
Jaydon Buckle
Buckle made his college decision official this week when he announced that he will attend Worcester State University. Another true scoring guard, Buckle is wired to get buckets, with a handful of 30+ point games to his name this season. He’s really good with the ball in his hands, showing a consistent ability to create space with the bounce to get into his shot. He’s physically mature and a deceptive athlete that can finish at the rim with both power and finesse. His comination of athleticism and physicality should allow him to guard all three perimeter spots at the next level. He has the ability to make an instant impact in the MASCAC and could rise to the level of an all-league type performer before his career is done.
Yeh, who just finished his post-graduate season at Bridgton Academy, will head south for college when he attends Alabama A&M University. A big wing with a high basketball IQ, Yeh has a nice combination of positional size, skill, and untapped potential. He has a smooth game that consists of making good decisions with the ball, being a high level passer, knocking down shots from behind the arc, and having the versatility to guard multiple postions. Simply put, he’s exactly what you’d want in a modern wing as he has the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. A native of Taiwan, Yeh will now head from Maine to Alabama, where I’d expect that as he continues to adjust to the pace and physicality of the game, he’ll be able to carve out a role at Alabama A&M.
