This gathering at the esteemed Boo Williams Sportsplex signified a new era in youth hoops and provided a platform to showcase much of North America’s future basketball stars.
Identical to my eight-part, Jr. EYBL Chicago feature, in these articles I’ll spotlight standout performers from each pool match-up at the respective event through a series of superlatives. Once again, it’s important to note that the first year of the Nike Jr. EYBL encompasses only eighth-grade teams, thus the included prospects are exclusively from the Class of 2028. Beginning with Pool A and culminating with the final group in Pool H, this sequence of exclusive recaps is intended to capture the essence of talent participating in this inaugural circuit.
Event Superlative Award: BEST ATHLETE

Jarrett Carter-Harris, touted as one of the most powerful athletes in the Class of 2028, left an indelible mark at the Nike Jr. EYBL Chicago Super Regional with his dominant performance. Employing a blend of brute force and finesse, Carter-Harris showcased his ability to impose his will on the court, relentlessly bulldozing his way to the rim while also exhibiting finesse in his offensive maneuvers. His remarkable strength and explosiveness serve as formidable assets, granting him the capability to defend multiple positions effectively and navigate to his preferred scoring spots with remarkable ease.
Event Superlative Award: BEST BALL-HANDLER
Jayden Redding
Jayden Redding
Jayden Redding, characterized by his wiry build and quickness off the dribble, emerged as a dynamic presence at the Jr. EYBL Chicago Super Regional. Demonstrating prowess as an adept finisher around the rim, Redding showcased his ability to create scoring opportunities by beating defenders off the dribble with his agility and speed. Moreover, he embraced a multifaceted role as a facilitator and playmaker, assuming the responsibilities of a point-forward on the court. Notably, Redding showcased his defensive versatility by effectively defending larger players while also orchestrating the offense and setting up teammates for high-percentage looks across various areas of the court.

Aguer Ayual
Aguer Ayual showcased his potential as an emerging stretch forward at the Nike Jr. EYBL Chicago Super Regional, demonstrating versatility both inside and outside the paint. Despite his springy frontcourt presence, Ayual displayed a knack for altering and blocking shots with finesse, serving as a formidable force in both primary and help-side defensive roles. His quickness off the floor, coupled with impeccable timing, allowed him to disrupt opposing offenses and make a significant impact on the defensive end, even in situations where offensive opportunities were scarce. Ayual’s ability to contribute on both ends of the court highlights his promising future as a dynamic frontcourt prospect.

Theo Troutman
Theo Troutman, a towering frontcourt prospect, was a pivotal interior presence for his club at the Jr. EYBL Chicago Super Regional. With an imposing combination of size and strength, Troutman asserted himself in the paint, generating numerous second-chance opportunities on offense and disrupting opponents’ inside positioning on defense. His most notable contribution at this stage lies in his exceptional rebounding prowess, where he consistently outmuscles opponents to secure crucial boards for his team. However, Troutman also poses a threat near the rim, showcasing the ability to finish with authority when given the opportunity.

Whether in transition or half-court sets, Harris relentlessly pushed the tempo, putting pressure on defenses with his relentless attacks off the dribble. While he possesses the vision and passing touch to excel as a facilitator, Harris primarily focused on converting his paint touches into scoring opportunities for himself during this particular weekend. The jet-quick guard’s ability to dictate the pace of the game and consistently penetrate defenses made him a standout performer, showcasing his potential to be a dynamic playmaker and offensive threat at the highest levels.
