Continue ReadingCBG and ETC came together in Richmond this past weekend to put on their Grassroots Tip-Off event, a one day showcase featuring some of the best teams in the DMV and throughout the state of VA.
Here’s a look at part one of the many 17U standouts from the event.
Nate Ament Nate Ament 6'8" | SF Highland | 2025 State #12 Nation VA | 6’9” F | Team Loaded VA
Ament showed why he’s considered a five star prospect and the best prospect in VA, as he put up big numbers in Loaded’s two wins at the event and showcased his unique skillset as well. At 6’9” he’s just a different type of player as he shouldn’t be able to do the things on the perimeter that he does on a regular basis. He made shots from deep off the catch at a very high clip, he put it on the deck to get the pull-up, he made great passes with both hands and he can guard multiple positions defensively.
Kaden Magwood Kaden Magwood 6'3" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2025 State #139 Nation VA | 6’3” PG | Team Loaded VA
Magwood is coming off being named MVP of Session 1 of the 3SSB Circuit, and he showed the whole bag this past weekend too putting up big time scoring numbers. A nationally ranked guard who should see his stock soar this summer, he’s a player that is wired to score and does it in a lot of ways while making it look easy. He created separation at will and knocked down contested shots with ease, he showed his ability to get downhill and finish with athleticism and when all eyes were on him he made plays for others as well.
Latrell Allmond Latrell Allmond 6'8" | C John Marshall | 2026 State VA | 6’8” PF | Team Loaded VA (2026)
Allmond is coming off of being named Defensive Player of Session 1 on the 3SSB, and even as a junior he’s absolutely dominant on both ends of the floor right now. While there’s quite a few talented bigs in his class, it’s the toughness and motor that Allmond plays with that separates him, in other words he’s a dog. He ran the floor hard on almost every play and finished above the rim with authority, he showed good touch around the rim, he worked well with his back to the basket and he defended the paint very well.
Desmon Rose | 6’6” F | Team Loaded VA
Rose is a player we’ve been watching for a while, and at this event he showed he may be turning the corner as he looks much improved and much more confident. At 6’6” he provides a solid mismatch threat, as he is a versatile and athletic forward who can play both on the perimeter and in the paint. He shot the ball with confidence and made shots from deep, he moved his feet well defensively and showed switch ability and he made good decisions with the ball in his hands as well.
Troy Henderson Troy Henderson 5'9" | PG Lancaster | 2025 State VA | 6’1” PG | Team Loaded VA
Henderson is the back-to-back Class 1 State Player of the Year, and he has shown so far this summer while he plays on a small high school team he can play with the best of them on any level. He has one of the best qualities you can ask for in a lead guard, and that’s complete control and understanding of the game on both ends. He sees the game ahead of others and makes great reads with the ball in his hands, he doesn’t get sped up and handles pressure well and he can make shots from all three levels at an efficient rate.
Jeremiah Morris Jeremiah Morris 6'8" | C King's Fork | 2025 State VA | 6’8” PF | VA Havoc
The King’s Fork big man has shown flashes over the past few years, and he looks like he could be a breakout player on the UA Rise Circuit this summer. The 6’8” forward has gotten himself in great shape allowing him to move better, and that’s made him a much more viable option on the offensive end. He showed his ability to face up and attack off the bounce, he used his strength to carve out space and finish and he showed good explosion as a finisher and a rim protector too.
Shawn Long Shawn Long 6'5" | SG Hopewell Highschool | 2024 VA | 6’3” WG | VA Havoc
Long is one of the best available seniors in the Richmond area after a great career at Hopewell, and he played with confidence and no fear in their matchup with two of the best 3SSB teams on the circuit. Long has a mature game that is somewhat a throw back style, as he works really well in the midrange and knows how to use his body well. He finished well in traffic and over bigger defenders, he knocked down shots off the catch and he got to spots in the midrange where he hit tough shots too.
