In the end, it all comes down to putting the ball in the hole. To have a chance a state, it helps to have a go-to guy who can get the buckets when they matter most.

Here are some scorers to know at state this week.

6A – [player_tooltip player_id='1270094' first='Andrell' last='Burton'], 6-foot-4 guard, 2024, Campus:

There are a bunch of guys who fit the description of “scorer” in the 6A field, but we want to take one last opportunity to celebrate Burton's talents. He is a high riser, a long guy who can put the ball on the deck and run the floor. He works hard when the ball is not in his hands to present scoring options. He can back down a small defender and he throws down some beautiful dunks. We're glad his team reached the state tournament to give everyone one last look at this athletic big guard.

5A – [player_tooltip player_id='1588383' first='Jaret' last='Sanchez'], 6-foot-3 forward, 2025, Shawnee Heights:

Everyone knows [player_tooltip player_id='1270268' first='David' last='Cobin'] can score. But when it comes to guys who fit the definition of scorer, you quickly come to Sanchez. He's a big-bodied small forward who loves to back defenders into the midrange and then step back to shoot over them. Sanchez is a ferocious competitor who has great faith in his ability to put the ball in the hole. He doesn't get as much credit as he deserves for his toughness to finish in traffic. And of course he loves to launch it from deep. His team has shown it can win when Sanchez isn't hitting a high percentage. But when he gets hot, watch out.

4A – [player_tooltip player_id='1624971' first='Coley' last='Burgess'], 6-foot guard, 2025, Rock Creek (pictured):

There are some guys who really score in the 4A tournament, most notably [player_tooltip player_id='1624974' first='Cooper' last='Carr'] from Baldwin and [player_tooltip player_id='1346958' first='Brax' last='Fisher'] from Abiline. But when you think of scorers, Burgess immediately comes to mind. He has a tight and creative handle, getting into the paint and to openings in the midrange to rise up for jumpers. Though not a big guy, he loves contact and gets to the rim. He is also very aggressive in transition. Burgess just finds ways to score.

3A – [player_tooltip player_id='1461340' first='Will' last='Cravens'], 6-foot-3 guard, 2024, Ellsworth:

Cravens is one of the most smooth athletes in the state. He effortlessly glides through defenses and rises above the rim with ease. Until this year, he flew under the high school radar despite making a big impression on the club scene. But he had a big football season, showing he's tough and competitive as well as athletic. As a senior on the court, he's scoring about 21 points per game, getting buckets at every level.

2A – [player_tooltip player_id='2147808' first='Ethan' last='Dillinger'], 6-foot-7 forward, 2024, Erie:

Like Cravens, this guy has flown under the radar, partly because he's so dedicated to baseball. But he's got the size to be a real matchup problem on the court and he stretches defenses with his talent from the perimeter. He gets a lot of second-chance buckets off his double-digit rebounds. He scores in a variety of ways for a big man, racking up over 21 points per game.

1A Div. I – [player_tooltip player_id='1953933' first='Joey' last='Dyck'], 6-foot-2 forward, 2024, South Gray:

We were blown away by Dyck's showing at last year's tournament. He showed he can light it up against the best small schools in the state. He hit 25-39 shots for 65 points over the three games. Dyck is a tough matchup – to big and physical for a lot of guards, way too athletic and creative for most bigs. He scores at all three levels and is ultra competitive.

1A Div II – [player_tooltip player_id='1962894' first='Luke' last='Albers'], 5-foot-11 guard, 2025, and [player_tooltip player_id='2393749' first='Will' last='Wegerer'], 5-foot-9 guard, 2025, Cunningham:

Albers and Wegerer combine to make a dynamic one-two punch from the guard position for the Wildcats. They score about 20 points apiece, running and dashing through defenses to buckets and cutting it loose from deep. They will be a fun tandem to watch this week.

In the end, it all comes down to putting the ball in the hole. To have a chance a state, it helps to have a go-to guy who can get the buckets when they matter most.
