Here is the 2024 2A All-Tournament Team:
PG – Tanner Heckel Tanner Heckel 6'0" | CG Lyndon | 2024 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2024, Lyndon:
This guy has been special since his freshman season. His bid for a state title on the court was denied, but he got championships on the gridiron and the track so we won’t feel sorry for him. Heckel will go down as one of the most successful athletes in recent years. He ran, jumped and shot his way to 68 points in the tourney, including 31 in the first round.
SG – Kreighton Kanitz Kreighton Kanitz 6'2" | SG McPherson | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2024, Moundridge (pictured):
Kanitz was an important addition to the team this year as he followed his father after a couple of big seasons at McPherson. After Moundridge graduated stars from last year’s team, Kanitz came in to provide a counterpunch to the team’s other scoring leader. He was consistent with at least 13 points in each game. He also provided muscle inside, ball handling and leadership.
SF – (tie) Barrett Moddelmog Barrett Moddelmog 6'3" | SG Moundridge | 2025 State KS , 6-foot-3 forward, 2025, Moundridge, and Max Erlich, 6-foot guard, 2024, Sacred Heart:
It might be unfair to make Moddelmog, a two-time champ, share this spot, but we made sure Moundridge was well represented here. Moddelmog has to be considered first and foremost a winner for being a leader of back-to-back title winners. At this year’s tournament, he bombed away from deep, stretching defense. He got 37 points as the Wildcats’ second leading scorer. Erlich was huge in Sacred Heart’s two wins with 18 and 23 points in those games.
PF – (tie) Evan Bogart, 6-foot-3 forward, 2024, Sacred Heart, and Boston Ekart Boston Ekart 6'5" | SF Sterling | 2026 State KS , 6-foot-5 forward, 2026, Sterling:
Bogart gave it his all in the tough semifinal loss to Lyndon. He hit 6-9 from the field, including 3-4 from deep, to get 19 points. He finished the tournament averaging 14 per game. Ekart capped his big sophomore season showing why he’s one of the top 2026s in the small school ranks. Like Bogart, he averaged 14 points in the tournament.
C – (tie) Gabe Riffel 6-foot-1 center, 2024, Sterling, and Kaedin Massey, 6-foot-9 center, 2024, Lyndon:
These guys are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to centers. Riffel isn’t that tall, but he’s rugged and makes a lot of plays around the goal. He scored 16 points and got 17 boards in Sterling’s first-round win. He finished the tournament with a ridiculous 42 rebounds. Meanwhile, Massey was menacing the paint as by far the biggest player at the tournament. He wasn’t the star, but was consistently productive.
Second Team:
PG – (tie) Michael Matteucci Michael Matteucci 5'9" | PG Sacred Heart | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-9 guard, 2024, Sacred Heart, and Daxten Miller, 5-foot-9 guard, 2024, Lyndon
SG – (tie) Jalen Massey Jalen Massey 5'9" | PG Lyndon | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-9 guard, 2024, Lyndon, and Kaiser Kanitz Kaiser Kanitz 6'0" | CG Moundridge | 2026 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2026, Moundridge
SF – Henry Hecox Henry Hecox 6'2" | SG Moundridge | 2025 State KS , 6-foot-3 forward, 2025, Moundridge
PF – (tie) Colby Beagley, 6-foot-2 forward, 2024, Sterling, and Calvin Manville, 6-foot-2 forward, 2024, Jefferson County North
C – Carson Gray, 6-foot-5 center, 2024, Sterling
