Starnes has had a breakout season at Butler as a physical interior presence, playing in both the wing and the post. He comes in at 108th in the new rankings this week, and should be a guy to watch on the grassroots circuit this summer. His defensive presence is notable, protecting the paint and working hard on the defensive glass with a unique blend of physicality, size, and mobility. Also able to operate as a solid finisher at the rim and make simple plays inside.
Hall became a leading presence as both a leader and a scorer all year long at Middle Creek. He’ll clock in at 133rd in our latest rankings as a bigger guard who averaged 14.5 PPG and looked to make plays with his size. He’s comfortable operating in the mid-range or attacking the basket, and has been very aggressive and confident all year. He’ll be running with Garner Road Select once again in the spring as he looks to continue to appear on college coaches radars.
Highlights
Morgan has become an important part of a Pine Lake Prep team that that finished 21-9 on the year. He averaged 7 PPG and 5.2 RPG and is going to be a key part of the squad next year. He rebounds hard at the guard spot, shoots the ball well, and really knows how to make winning, impact plays when the time comes. He should be running on Carolina Riptide once against next spring as he shows coaches why he can be a winning player with plenty of skill.
Jones had a big year for Croatan as they won over 20 games, advanced to the second round of the state tournament, and showed they can hold their own in the 3A class. He’s now jumped to 154th in the rankings after becoming a more efficient perimeter shooter as well as boosting his overall numbers. 17 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 2.7 APG are great numbers for a shooting guard, and considering his year to year improvement, will put up even better numbers next year. Look for him to become a name to know from down East.
Nance has been a huge part of Seventy First’s somewhat surprising championship run to the 3A title game against Central Cabarrus. He’s averaged 10.5 PPG, 5 RPG, and 2.3 steals per game as a physical wing presence as part of Seventy-First’s balanced attack. This has landed him at an even 150th position in our updated rankings. He may be a football star first, but continue to watch Nance in the state championship tonight and next year.
Russell is going to be a big part of what Central Cabarrus can continue to do next year, as the junior is now on our radar at PrepHoops in the 170th spot in our rankings. He’s bumped his numbers up to 10.4 PPG, 3 assists per game, and 2.8 steals per game as part of the up-tempo group who loves to press and get up and down the floor. He continues to up his game in terms of scoring, and playing more minutes behind the Daniel twins. He’ll have time to shine bright next season as well as in the grassroots season.
