The Cubs racked up more than a dozen steals and half a dozen blocked shots, including multiple of each during the pivotal stretch, to help highlight their eventual 57-50 defeat of the Wildcats.
“It’s important because they’re a (Class) 5A school,” junior forward Trushaad Bush Trushaad Bush 6'2" | SG University Lab | 2025 State LA said. “That helps us with power points and get better seeding for the playoffs. It was a physical game, and we were able to pull through.”

The junior finished with 14 points, a team-high nine rebounds, a handful of steals and a couple assists. The multisport athlete used his big body and physicality to attack both the boards and the basket while also showing confidence handling the ball and shooting from range with one of the team’s two 3-pointers and a pull-up for a long 2.
Darryl Hurst — 6-1 G — University Lab (2024)
The senior finished with a team-high 15 points with his midrange, drive and work on the offensive boards. Hurst added seven rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Carleiyon Joseph — 6-3 F — Walker (2025)
Joseph was an absolute monster on the glass with his length, positioning, timing, explosive leap and strong hands helping him corral 19 rebounds, including several acrobatic grabs through Cubs’ traffic and hands. He also scored a game-high 23 points and added two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Ethan Kimmie Ethan Kimmie 6'3" | SF University Lab | 2027 State LA — 6-4 G/F — University Lab (2027)
The versatile freshman wing had his hands all over Wednesday’s matchup, blocking and altering shots, jumping passing lanes, snatching rebounds and finishing through traffic and contact in the lane and on the boards. Kimmie finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and at least five steals and four blocks, while also showing his ability to shoulder heavy ball-handling duties.
Clifford (KJ) Smith-Johnson — 6-3 G/F — Walker (2024)
The tall senior guard helped lead his Wildcats’ offense, including showing an attacking mentality to help answer the Cubs’ third-quarter run and keep his team battling throughout the second half. Smith-Johnson finished with 18 points, three rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal.
Troy Sylve Jr. — 6-3 G/F — Walker (2025)
The multiport’s standout was at his best around the basket helping grab seven points and getting a piece of a couple U-High shots, while also scoring two points and dishing out two assists.
