Here are five shooters from 2A you should know:
Isaac Briar Isaac Briar 6'1" | SG Sterling | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2024, Sterling:
A guy who has developed a reputation as a shooter over the years, Briar is now the leader of a top team in 2A. The Black Bears have been a tough opponent for years, but now they look like they may be ready to make a run on the state level. Briar is a confident veteran who is used to shouldering a scoring load. He finds openings to get shots off from deep but isn’t a selfish shot hog.
Barrett Moddelmog Barrett Moddelmog 6'3" | SG Moundridge | 2025 State KS , 6-foot-3 guard, 2025, Moundridge:
Moundridge is looking to make another run at the title despite some big graduation losses. Moddelmog is a battle-tested leader despite being just a junior. As the leading scorer on last year’s team, he showed he knows how to put the ball in the basket. Over the summer he demonstrated that he has no fear of letting it loose from deep, which is essential now that teams are trying harder to take him out of the game.
Dylan Gansell, 6-foot-1 guard, 2024, Hill City:
The Ringnecks are a team not getting a lot of pub that might make some serious noise over the next month. They have a nice group of seniors with Gansell as the leading shooter. This guy has been an extremely efficient shooter from deep, averaging better than 40% each of his three varsity seasons.
Landon Simpson, 6-foot-1 guard, 2025, Ellinwood:
After watching Ellinwood closely the past couple of seasons, we assumed they would have to rebuild after losing some special seniors to graduation. But junior Landon Simpson has taken over a bunch of the scoring responsibility and is shooting it particularly well from deep. He’s hitting a sweet 42% despite launching a high number of threes. He’s had three or more triples in seven games, with a high of eight in one game.
Sam Wheeler, 5-foot-9 guard, 2025, Oxford:
Oxford turned to a bunch of non-seniors this year and is showing it could be a player in the postseason. One of the leaders to step up is Wheeler, a junior who has the role of primary deep threat. He locates shots and knocks them down, stretching defenses and opening up opportunities for his teammates.
