One. Langsy All State Run. Shakopee has been good all season. Jalen Langsy Jalen Langsy 5'11" | PG Shakopee | 2024 State MN has been good all season. With 16 wins in their last game 18 games the Sabers are pushing to the level of being great, and Jalen Langsy Jalen Langsy 5'11" | PG Shakopee | 2024 State MN has officially been great.
We are talking about a recent run kicked off by 36 against Prior Lake, 28 points in a 25 point win over Lakeville North, 26 in the one score loss to Tonka, 44 at Eagan, 42 in the second game against Prior Lake, and then 34 points tonight against South.
Langsy scored that 34 on an efficient 12 of 18 shooting helped by four three point makes and six of seven foul shooting. The threes were big but the way Jalen finished his attacks is what really caught my eye. And then you have his confidence. You can just see in his body language that he knows shots are going in right when it leaves his hand.
Two. Cordes in Support. Junior Isaac Codes is one of five Shakopee players that came into the game scoring in double figures. Tonight he was the second go to scoring option hitting five threes but also rebounding (7), defending, and moving the ball the way Shakopee moves it so well. Cordes had 18 points and only needed nine looks to get there.
Three. South Struggles. At the half, South players not named Johnson and Burks shot a combined 1 of 15. And Burks had four scores in half one but needed a dozen looks to get there. For the game South shot 18 of 66 for the game and that was helped by five baskets in the last five minutes. Shakopee’s defense deserves credit here but South missed some bunnies and guys that usually shoot the ball well in space simply didn’t. And there were some low percentage shots that came at some bad times.
Four. Shakopee with the Work. The biggest reason that Shakopee won – in my opinion – is I thought they had more fight. Jade West Jade West 6'4" | PF Shakopee | 2024 State MN battled his way to the glass with more effort than those on him and he rewarded his team with ten boards. Eli Schroeder Eli Schroeder 6'1" | SG Shakopee | 2025 State MN seemed to know where every defensive board was going so the junior guard chased down what had to be a career high 15 rebounds. My rebound totals had Shakopee winning 42-26 and they were surely the smaller team ( Luke Wherley Luke Wherley 6'5" | SF Shakopee | 2025 State MN was out) but they were the team that battled more.
Five. Oddity for South. I can’t speak for what happened to South tonight as it was an oddity. They came into this game having won seven of their last eight games! That group of seven wins including beating 5th ranked Shakopee less than a month ago! That run also includes a win over top ten Farmington and defeating the improved Apple Valley Eagles. Ryan Johnson Ryan Johnson 6'4" | SG Lakeville South | 2024 State MN had his moments, Burks did some good things and Keaton Ressler Keaton Ressler 6'1" | PG Lakeville South | 2025 State MN hit three late threes to make something of the evening.
The record shows that this was out of character for the way South has been playing, but it was a rough night.
